My Early Gold Type set has grown by one.
A somewhat common date 1803/2 Draped Bust Half Eagle became available so I jumped on it. This leaves me with just the "Fat Head" Half Eagle. I know there is the Small Eagle $5 but it is out of my league in all grades and dates.
I have never personally held a Draped Bust Gold coin in all my years collecting so I can't wait to get this one tomorrow. To me this AU58CAC looks really nice and deserving of the grade. The reverse has full detail and the obverse has minimal abrasions. I think the Trueview looks great next to the others in the set. It is a common date with a CAC pop of 33 in AU58 with 47 higher. Maybe one of the other dates will come my way later in life. It would be nice to get one dated 1799 or the 1806 7x6 stars to go with this 8x5 variety. I can't wait to see it in hand and place it next to the 1811.

Incredible! That is a wonderful 58.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
A lovely coin, and a nice match with the Bust Left example.
Thanks @CharlotteDude , a coin from your mint still eludes me. Missed a couple right before the run up.
Thanks @P0CKETCHANGE , glad I noticed the 0 and didn't use an O.

Thanks to everyone for taking a look and commenting.
I still need to get my hands on an Early Gold book to determine the variety for these early coins. I wish Doug Winter had one that was in print.

Beautiful example of a very desirable coin.
I looked into your comments about being “common “, and was very surprised to see that that the population in AU-MS is much higher than I would have imagined. Highly than probably any other denomination from that time period.
It’s wonderful that so many of these stayed in the US, and didn’t get melted later.
gorgeous coins, I'm looking to score a draped bust eagle myself

Great to hear from you @DeplorableDan Good luck.
Doug Winter (where I found this nice 1803/2) currently has a much more rare 1806 pointed 6 up for sale. He listed 50 gold coins today. Best of luck finding one.

It surprised me too. There are 130 of this date at CAC across all grades. Many more non-CAC but often those are worked on. It does feel strange for me to call something common when it is an R-5.9. All relative I guess. They estimate 500 across all grades are in still around.
