Heritage Auctions - upcoming Harry Bass Collection Part II at Orlando FUN

Just browsed HA upcoming auctions and saw that part 2 of the Harry Bass Collection is scheduled. https://coins.ha.com/c/auction-home.zx?saleNo=1355
Items are not listed yet, though if you can trust the drop-down menu they've categorized the coins:

holy crap
Actually if you click the search button on that auction link, you do get the list of all 109 coins. They are placeholders with just the TrueView images and no description yet.
Now I notice item descriptions at least in some cases have links through to the PCGS cert info.
Parts 3 and 4 are also up. Look at next year's Central States and ANA auctions.

I can't find links to those in the upcoming auctions list, and I can't see how to search HA for auction (not item) titles.
Anyway, I see they are actively adding items to this part 2 auction, was 109 now 111.

Fantastic double struck, 1st strike off-center:
Great eye!
It's nice when the Mint finds and fixes and error! I'm sure the error was corrected in their mind!
Just noting how images can vary so much for the same coin. The $5 1829 Proof https://coins.ha.com/itm/early-half-eagles/half-eagles/coming-soon-pcgs-8149-/p/1355-11003.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 currently has basic images from the TrueView and also a Heritage Auctions image. HA:
I realize I'm not the first to point this out, and I'm not trying to start any pro/con discussion either way, just was surprised at how different the images were.
And by the way, look at the CoinFacts on this one: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1829-5-large-size/8149/66 - this PR66+ coin is going to fetch a hefty price I imagine.
@waisaacs
Heritage will (usually) provide a photo with the holder showing. In that photo the coin will typically have the cameo look to it (for coins that have that look). I suspect on this coin the with holder photo will also. Oh, and the write up I suspect again will be very good.
Here is a previous Bass ($4M+) as an example.

Descriptions starting to get populated. E.g. https://coins.ha.com/itm/early-half-eagles/1805-5-bd-3-high-r5-ms64-pcgs/p/1355-11102.s and yes @lilolme the holder images have been added. Noticed that the item count went from 111 to 103, maybe that's just a temporary effect of how they are updating the description text, or maybe they pushed a few back?
Most of the eagles/half/quarters have descriptions now. Can someone tell me what happened to the top of the reverse on this one https://coins.ha.com/itm/early-half-eagles/1798-5-large-eagle-large-8-13-stars-reverse-bd-4-high-r4-ms66-pcgs/p/1355-11091.s ? Looks like a blob or two of extra gold. How does that happen in the striking process? With the MS66 grade I expected it to look flawless (ish).
It is in the description (HA generally does a good job but seem to go the extra step with the Bass). Here is the part from HA description. Essentially the die has a flaw there (chip, cud...) and that feature/flaw is struck into the coin. It is 'as struck'.
For most observers, the eye is immediately drawn to the top of the reverse. Large rim breaks join the tops of ES in STATES and the top left of the O in OF. The entire area over TATES O shows numerous small cracks and die chips that are nearly impossible to describe individually. All of those die state features are seen to some extent on all known examples of the 1798 BD-4 half eagle, and those anomalies provide immediate attribution.

Thank you @lilolme for the info and for politely pointing out that I overlooked that, when I clearly deserved a RTFM admonishment!
The 1870-S three dollar piece description is up https://coins.ha.com/itm/three-dollar-gold-pieces/1870-s-3-au50-pcgs/p/1355-11112.s

Thanks and what a good write up, history, coin and all.
So graffiti, obverse light damage and some noted polishing. But how many millions $ will it sell for?

Some amazing coins there... will be interesting to see the hammer prices. I will not be bidding... some other items that are calling for my funds. Cheers, RickO
Looks like all the descriptions are in.
I'm confused (often, but in particular) about https://coins.ha.com/itm/patterns/1877-25c-sailor-head-half-dollar-judd-1500-pollock-1653-low-r7-pr66-red-and-brown-pcgs-cac/p/1355-11071.s
Is it legitimate to call it a half dollar? Is that a reference to the obverse being the same as used for half dollars even though the reverse of this pattern is a "QUAR. DOL."? Other instances of the Judd 1500 I found even in other Heritage auctions call it a quarter dollar.
Can we flag someone from HA if this is something needing correction? Or more likely can someone straighten out my understanding of this piece?
Thank you for posting that. I’ve asked out cataloguers to check into it. Edited to add: The description has been edited/corrected and that should be reflected on our site later today.
Additionally, at the bottom right of each lot listing page, you can click on “Report a Problem with This Page".

Glad I could help. I can't turn off my editing mode (I'm a coin novice but I just noticed that discrepancy).
I see that the description has been changed when you click through, but the link title and blurb in the main listing of the coins still refers to half dollar. Screenshot of search for Judd 1500 showing the issue:
Maybe they are still in the middle of fixing things, but just in case. I did use the website feedback button to report the same.
Thank you, again.

if any of you want to take a moment to do the order of operations on the strikes and the prevailing details, that'd be nice.
my mind just isn't accepting how some dentils in some spots are on top or as strong as they are and some are weaker where they shouldn't be. i'm really focused in on k9 to k10 or so. i know wonky things happen on multi-struk coins but there is still usually a story to be told that makes sense or doesn't.
perhaps this was struck more than 2x?
would it be possible for the dentils to be there prior to any strikes? seems like those are on the die usually.
Quite welcome. Appears to be fixed already. New link https://coins.ha.com/itm/patterns/1877-25c-sailor-head-quarter-dollar-judd-1500-pollock-1653-low-r7-pr66-red-and-brown-pcgs-cac/p/1355-11071.s and it looks like the old link still works in case anyone bookmarked it.
The 1870-S description has been updated from AU50 to SP50 https://coins.ha.com/itm/three-dollar-gold-pieces/1870-s-3-sp50-893-engraved-pcgs-unique/p/1355-11112.s though the linked cert verification https://www.pcgs.com/cert/46095412 still calling it AU50
You can get your bid in starting Friday.

That is interesting about the AU on the pcgs cert page. Here is the slab lab video from a couple months ago. At about the 14:30 time mark the 1870 S discussion starts but just after the 16:00 mark the video puts the slab and coin on the screen. It is labeled as SP50. Then just after the 23:00 mark Steve F talks about how the coin has problems but due to what it is, it was decided to give it a numeric grade. Then they say the SP for specimen or in some cases special strike. So don't know why the AU is showing on the pcgs cert page.

The Heritage images include the slab as you indicated they would, and it's labeled with the SP50. PCGS just haven't updated the cert.
The PCGS grading standards page says:
Specimen (SP)
Special coins struck at the Mint from 1792-1816 that display many characteristics of the later Proof coinage. Prior to 1817, the minting equipment and technology was limited, so these coins do not have the "watery" surfaces of later Proofs nor the evenness of strike of the close collar Proofs.
It looks like the high relief double eagle got an SP designation too. https://coins.ha.com/itm/proof-high-relief-double-eagles/1907-20-high-relief-sp68-pcgs/p/1355-11039.s
Bidding is open.
Regarding the older AU50 grade on the 1870-S cert page, I contacted PCGS about it and got a reply back asking for supporting documentation. In fact if you look at the images from the cert page, one set is of the slab with the SP50 designation. So I suspect they'll update it eventually.
The bid on the that coin is currently $120K, which I recognize is rather meaningless at this point. There are a couple of coins with higher bids now, but is it expected that it (1870-S) will be the most expensive one in the entire Bass collection? What's a reasonable expectation of what it will go for?
Three days left for online bidding before the auction goes live. The 1870-S just topped $1M.
Sorted by bid: https://www.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?Ns=Price|1&N=3183+793+794+791+1577+792+2088+4294937925&ic4=SortBy-071515
The auction is tonight at 7PM Eastern! Would be curious to hear from anyone who is there seeing these coins in person, or even with comments about the auction itself tonight.
$4.6M for the 1870-S
That was the winning hammer bid, meaning the price realized was $5,520,000.

I viewed the coin and many others in person this morning, I’m sitting in the auction room with @P0CKETCHANGE currently. I was not expecting the 1870 to go that high, but it is unique. I’ll be posting a report about the day with more details once I get to my hotel room

Thanks @DeplorableDan I found your other post with your write-up. Appreciate the inside view and the good writing. Must have been wild to hold that coin.
For the record here's the table of realized prices from the auction https://coins.ha.com/c/print-prices-realized.zx?saleNo=1355&ic=homepage_printerversion_archive

Am I just too poor to care about patterns? I mastered the 1868 set but dang it is such another level to do some of these sets.
