It’s a great coin with outstanding cameo contrast, but I’m not sure that I would grade it PR-65 given the hair lining in the fields.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

It’s UC, but GCs non slabbed pictures are horrible at showing it.

A beautiful piece that I’m sure someone will love. They better after that kind a money😵‍💫

I don’t understand the bidding strategy. Why not snipe?

I have not figured out how to snipe on GC, too old I guess.

Wait until end of auction and place a last second bid.

Very easy, just place your bid within the last 10 seconds and hope it was a high enough bid! :)

Don't know why but PCGS had increased their price guide as:
    July 2021 400K
    Feb 2022 500K
    March 2022 700K
    May 2022 775K

So I guess it all adds up.?.

Because they don't agree with the price. And the bidders didn't "snipe" and they like to snipe.

Two people enter legitimate bids and the highest bid won. It seems a pretty legitimate result to me.

Tough date, especially in deep cameo.

I think that pricing was pretty much spot on- PCGS price guide for a 65 DCAM is $775k, for 64 DCAM is $450k. This buyer was $600k all in.

If the new owner chooses to cross it and is successful, if it crosses as a 65 DCAM they win, at 64+ DCAM they come out more or less even, and if it crosses at 64 DCAM they lose.

Most likely it’s already been to CAC and was unsuccessful in a 65 holder but if it crosses in a 64 or 64+ holder a CAC sticker would just be the extra gravy on top.

For the record I was not involved in this bidding war in any way, although it’s a very nice looking Type 1.

To be fair, isn't it at least possible that the poster who wrote "Very silly bidding" could know far more about that particular coin, its true market value and the best way to bid on it, better than anyone else on the planet? ;)
