This PCGS coin is jinxed!

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,152 ✭✭✭✭✭

Out of a couple of hundred auctions I've run over the last couple of years, I've had THREE non-paying bidders. When the auction ends, I send an invoice- and I know eBay also does. eBay is set up so that my fees are returned to me after some time if the buyer doesn't pay. I don't send out reminder emails or messages at all. We're all adults here, and if someone bids and wins and doesn't pay, sobeit. I block and move on.
I had listed a few weeks ago a simple PR69 Ike dollar. No big deal. It is sold, and then the buyer doesn't pay.
I think I will keep it, but after a bit, I decide to list it again (in a lot with two other coins). It sells, yet again, with no payment.
Fast forward to this week.
I list it again, along with a few other auctions. Everything closes, and in the last couple of days, all lots are paid for and shipped, and I am staring at this previous item... this PR69 Ike!
I know it is a bit premature as the bidder could pay tomorrow or even the next day, but I've got to ask myself. Is this coin jinxed?

I have a 1926 dime that I listed 4 times and every time it brought out all the nutty buyers.
I gave up and decided to keep it for a while longer. ;)

  • Try sending out a reminder some people just need a little nudge.

"Two PCGS coins and an NGC coin" is a terrible title for an auction. I'd love to hear why the quarter was submitted, though.

Relist again as a buy it now with immediate payment required so no one else can not pay.

Wny not do a giveaway here with that as the prize, and see if the winner agrees to accept it. :p@braddick

you would do that to him? have him give away the coin and then the winner declines to accept. man, what would THAT do to a person's psyche?

that is just plain mean! :D

@braddick I assume your new thread about questionable submissions was in regards to my post above, so I'll ask why you'd try to sell it. To me, and many others here, that coin has less than face value. It's spending money and has to be cracked out to spend. Just like why dealers can't pay face value for ballistic rolls, and may not be able to for mint sets or plated coins.

Three buyers with cold feet; very bad sign, be suspicious of what is going on and very scared....The fourth time could be a real doozy!!!

    Numismatics vs novelty.
I do like your thinking though!

I had a dealer share this quote with me once and it's stuck with me ever since:

"Bees don't waste time telling flies that honey is better than poo."

in situations like this where something pretty far outside the norm happens with a coin(s) with me, USUALLY it means there is something else going on with the coin and/or there is something else i'm supposed to do with it.

ends up being a discovery, grades higher than i thought it would, ends up selling for much more later etc. it isn't 100% but i'd say it is at least in the high 80s to low 90s percent wise. so keep an eye out for that sort of thing.

perhaps it happened this way to send you down a path you wouldn't have otherwise gone down?
