My first venture into Early Gold
This is my first purchase of an Early Gold coin (will need a few others for the gold type set). I saw it on the DWN site and kept returning to see if it had sold. I am a collector/hobbyist and willing to pay a premium for quality. After a very short email with Doug, I decided to acquire it.
Some here may not agree (I am ok with that, we all have our preferences) but I think this would stand tall against the other eight 58CAC's and even some 63CAC's. It has that freshly minted look that I like. As many have seen, I am not a dirty gold guy. I like luster and this one spoke to me. I can't wait to see it in hand. I was going to do a guess the grade but I have a feeling many here saw the coin (and passed on it thankfully).

That’s a great coin!

Nice addition to your gold type set
I’m no expert on early gold, but have to agree I could see this in a MS grade…
Curious if any early gold experts can speak to the wear / current grade.
It's all about what the people want...
My favor Half Eagle design. Very nice coin. Enjoy!
Congrats! It's a great looking coin! Doug's description was effusive, and I trust him as the expert.
I sold an 1808 in 61 recently, and I think your coin looks nicer, more original.
I would like to get another one of this type for my own collection eventually. Capped bust gold seems to be especially tough over the past year.
If this coin had a little more color I would have been all over it for my own set. But I can appreciate some nice clean gold. Nice pickup!

I note that you posted you are not a dirty gold guy, but even though I love dirty gold I still think this coin is fabulous. It appears to have original mint frost and does not look like it has had its surfaces worked. I love the coin and think it is a terrific example of the series.

I think Everytime you look at this coin in the years ahead, you will always like it.
Very nice pick up.
Thanks @streeter This is the centerpiece of my collection.
Thanks @TomB The originality caught my eye. We are similar but opposite. When you post dirty gold I love it too.
I guess I got lucky @Pedzola that it was just shy of the color you desired. I delayed buying it so it would have been gone otherwise.
@pmh1nic I agree. I collect Classic Heads because I love that design but this may just take over for me.
@LukeMarshall Doug notes a slight luster break on the Obv field. I will probably see it in hand.
Thanks @alaura22 , @CoffeeTime and @Mr_Spud .
Thanks @JonBrand83 This is my life after $2.50 Indian collecting. Sold off that 1914D that you owned before me.

How would you read the coin based on the grade? The reverse looks Unc. the obverse seems to have a touch of friction but it doesn't look like a coin that ever circulated. My guess is it sold for 62-63 money.
That's a sweetheart!

Congratulations on such a superb addition 👌
Congrats! All that matters is that you like it. Although I do too. Enjoy it.

Indeed that is a nice coin to have, congrats
For those still looking for this date, Legend has an 1811 $5 58CAC available (but I think mine is better ) There are only eight 58CAC's and 2 were for sale at the same time. Crazy.
Here is the TrueView. I really don't think it does it justice. It looks very flat or dull.

Thanks @Grantu . I can't wait to see the proof set as you build it. I do want a gold proof at some point.

Gorgeous example for the type! Great frost, well struck and centered, no real distractions and appears to be the graded correctly and very solid for that. Love it!
Heck of a way to start out! Congrat's!!

@pcgscacgold .... Very nice gold coin.... still has luster and super detail. Cheers, RickO

Wow really nice 1811 $5!
Beautiful coin.
My favorite design is the fathead. The 1813 is the most affordable. They’re available but finding a nice one will be challenging.
One of my favorite early gold designs, since it matches my favorite coin series that Capped bust halves. You got a very nice coin for sure. One day I'll get one for my collection.

I wish I had started collecting with these. Better late, than never. Sell the new, buy the old.
Just an amazing, nice early gold example that had to be carefully protected for 211 years!
One of those $5 coins in your pocket was like a $100+ dollar bill now days.

Excellent choice!
USAF (Ret) 1974 - 1994 - The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. Remembering RickO, a brother in arms.
I moved into some $10 Indians and a handful of $10 Denver Liberty's and few Swiss, British, French, and Belgian small gold coins from the 1800's and early 1900's the past few years, as modern gold has become less desirable to me.
When I sell most my modern stuff the next couple years some of those funds will go looking for just real nice early coins, just like your example. That is also why I moved into National Commemoratives of the US Mint and other so-called medal varieties as they are much more fun to learn about and harder to collect.
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
great coin and from a great dealer. the luster looks abundant!
