1788 Massachusetts Cent.

EddiEddi Posts: 507 ✭✭✭✭✭

A pre-federal issue from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I would greatly appreciate your opinions of the grade.

It is a nice coin barring some planchet defects on the reverse which I understand are common for these issues.

Thanks,

Eduard

This is a nice, attractive VF-25 example with no defects other than the mint caused planchet issues. The copper is good with no corrosion or porosity, which is a big plus. It’s a nice collector’s coin.

As for “investment” it probably isn’t one. When I upgraded my Massachusetts Cent type coin from a VF to an AU-58, I thought about selling the VF but didn’t do it. Although I had owned it for close to 40 years, I could not get enough for it to make the sale worthwhile.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I like it, but not nearly proficient enough to grade it.
