What’s Happening With This 1919-S Walker?

A coin I’m not crazy about but could get interested at the right price. Check out the reverse. Are those die faults under AT and AM?

There appears to be extra “stuff” all over the reverse…..Remnants from die clashing?

Aside from that, I believe it’s a genuine though somewhat abused example. Still a meaty better date early walker that someone somewhere would want for an album at the right price.

Looks like die gouges... They appear raised. Cheers, RickO

The meatiness is the attraction. Of course, the ugly toning has the opposite effect. I also thought about die clashing. Whether that or die gouges, as @ricko mentioned, you’d think there would be something written up somewhere but I haven’t found it…

Fox reports a clashed die variety, but no picture.
If it was a Bust half I could see die gouges like that, but less likely on “modern “ coinage, I think. And there are other raised areas around the reverse that look more like remnants from a clashed die.

Looks like where the bottom of the dress & shoe clashed.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

The shoe above the date looks a little clashed too.

Looks like a good album coin - perhaps a dip in acetone and/or a light swabbing with MS70 will get rid of the hazy gray schumtz on Miss Liberty.

The hazy gray which is covering much of the obverse and a little on the reverse might be what is left over after someone tried to remove something else that was there.
