A Wednesday at the 2022 ANA

My work schedule only allowed me to attend the ANA on Wednesday for about 3 hours. I arrived at 9am and found no line at the ANA Members booth so getting registered was a quick and easy. I had just joined 2 weeks prior to the show. The great people at the ANA rushed to get my membership card to me. A big thanks to them.
After that I joined the group of about 20 people that were waiting for early entry (9:30am for ANA members). As it got closer to 9:30am the group swelled to maybe 50-60 people. Nothing like the lines I found myself in at the Central States show in April.
I tried taking a few photos but the conditions were not the best for that. At some dealer tables they gave looks like I shouldn't do it and unlike the Tyrant display last year (out of this world display cases) the big coins on display at this show were flat inside cases. The overhead lighting blurred out the coins.
My first stop was at GC. The proof coinage at GC was interesting to see. I am not a fan of that type of proof coin but I am sure many found them amazing. I will take a DCAM Liberty over one of these any day. That's the great thing about the hobby. We can all chase different things. I will say seeing 110 year old gold in 68+ slabs says something about the care past owners have taken.
I was there to pick up a purchase from Doug Winter (will attach at end) so I made several attempts to stop and see him. Each time I swung by he was busy so I continued around the floor. I had hoped to find some Daniel Carr gold pieces but as others have said there was only one dealer with DC items. The things he had are the same ones he had at the Central States show. Maybe in the next few years there will be turn over in DC gold. Fingers crossed.
I have been interested in Regency holders (really wish I had ignored people 15 years ago that told me to buy the coin not the holder) but only saw one on display. A somewhat common MS60 or 61 ( I believe??) $20 Liberty for $10,000. I am not that interested.
One dealer specialized in rolls of proof silver statehood silver quarters. Going off memory I believe he as at about $225 per roll. Could buy a roll of one state or mixed rolls. A dealer had rows of OGH MS63 common date Saints for a show special $2025. Not bad but about 15-20% over current spot is a little high for me.
Several dealers were stacking and counting raw UNC Morgans and Peace Dollars. I enjoy the sound of silver on silver stacking. There were no customers around so I don't know if they were taking in a lot of coins or doing dealer to dealer trades. Since it was still early in the show I saw mainly dealers looking at other dealers slab boxes. In the 3 hours I did not see many buys from the public. There were several people trying to sell items to dealers. As with almost any show, Morgan collectors are in heaven at the ANA. Every date, every grade. Mikes Coin Chest (Shaun Bobb) had the Wurt collection on display/for sale. Amazing coins but then Shaun specializes in that (check out his website).
Finally made it to Doug's table when he was free and sat for a bit talking about the show and prices. I mentioned a common date 66+CAC Saint at $14,000, a few common date 65CAC $10 Indians from $10,000-15000 and a few others. Also, $3 gold was priced really high. I can only go off ones with prices visible but 63CAC's have moved towards $7500 and 64CAC are around $10,000. I picked up this 62CAC one year type coin from him. Those that were buyers a few years ago did well. The CAC gold market is strong and continues to shine like the pieces in the slabs.
It is a great place to hold the show. Nearby parking for $15 all day, skywalk the entire way from car to show and easy on off with the tollway make it perfect for a show of this size. I look forward to the next one they host. I am sure others will post a lot of photos. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the report. Glad you had a good show and your new $3 is beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your report! Nice coin too! And I agree with you on preferring the look of cameo/deep cameo gold vs the matte/satin proofs.
Great report and glad you were able to pick up such a nice coin.
The ANA display actually discussed and displayed different proof finishes and stated that collectors in the early 1900s didn’t like the matte proof look and many proofs went unsold.

It took me a while but finally found one. Down to just the Type 2 gold $1 (then it is off to pre-35 coinage).

Thanks. Due to a truck vs bike accident last Memorial Day I’m limited on how long I can wander around shows. Making it to 3 hours was much better then last year.
