Extremely difficult to grade from a photo and especially so when heavy toning involved. For example, hard to see Liberty hair detail regarding wear. Luster? Beyond the major obverse scratch in prime focal area, that too bright aqua coloring raises questions. I think we’ll all be guessing here so here’s mine: AU details.

If the curved line that runs into Ms. Liberty’s shin and into her gown is into the coin, no. I think I see some wear on her bust line. If that is true, no. The color might be AT. If so, no. These photos leave many unanswered questions.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I agree with the above assessments... The mottled tarnish - and the picture - preclude a truly definitive grade. AU, AT and details. Cheers, RickO

AU details, scratched, cleaned and retoned. There is a reason why it is still raw.

Did you by chance buy this off ebay? It looks familiar.

I did not buy it, but I was wondering from the description if it would really grade at a 63 or not. I am just learning how to grade and had questions.

Gotcha. Saw some similar on ebay (if not that one) and was worried about possible artificial toning... Natural toning USUALLY is less drastic toning and softer transitions, it's not normally hard edged or blotchy like that. Also that kind of toning g can sometimes hide other problems.

It looks cleaned and artificially retoned. AU details.

This is quite an messy looking coin that I believe has been artificially toned. You need to learn the basics of how to tell if a coin has been cleaned, played around with, etc. Take your time and don’t force the issue.

Btw, not all natural toning is attractive.

My first thoughts are, how did you obtain it and why would not already be in a 63 holder ?

Not in a million years at any of the four main services where the numismatists will examine it in person unless it has stunning luster which I highly doubt. At least the front and back toning match but looks quite artificial as others have pointed out.

Toning looks very suspect. Something is not right.
