😂 Me and Brett PMd about that thread. Brett closed it because somebody requested it and it was getting testy. But he left the thread available in the archives and didn’t delete it because he knew people could learn from it and no rules were broken. We have all taken our losses on the coins you sold us and learned valuable lessons from them. If it was just one collector that got screwed then it would be one thing. But I know a handful personally. Your well known after the last collector you screwed. Do you really want me to name names? I’ll let this rest now. Don’t want you crying to the moderators again!
I'm neutral here.
Personally, I think you have been influenced by other folks likes and dislikes. CAC comes to mind. Your war shouldn't be against anyone but PCGS! Everyone has different tastes in coins. You have pointed that out discreetly in my Seated Dollar thread. If these coins were so bad, why didn't you approach PCGS about a grade guarantee? I read through the old thread, and I think you were expecting a bit much from a fellow collector. Just my humble opinion.
I don’t want to keep going back and forth on someone else’s thread. I’ll send you a PM and respond to any other reply’s via PM.
As a collector and dealer for 40+ years, it seems that although I prefer generic gold pre-33…. I can smell a rat in any category of collecting and numismatics.
Although I believe in PCGS greatly, we all know that the quality and surfaces vary with all grading platforms in some capacity…
With that all in mind, I tend to agree with Crusty and say well said! Sounds like you were unfortunately being taken advantage of early on in your learnings by someone needing a buck…
Unfortunately this happens more often than we more seasoned collectors realize and hinders the younger generations interest and longevity in the hobby.
Now in my 70’s I hope to have future generations to mentor and help do it the right way…. My hope is that we in the older generations can mentor with integrity and transparency…
Crusty - so sorry that you had to endure what you did.
Jeez guys! An interesting turn on this thread for certain… and on my birthday no less! Sincerely appreciate everything I have learned here… it is a most interesting mix of numismatists… young, old, savvy, novice, and I appreciate all of you!
I didnt play on this one, but that's what I was thinking as well.
It certainly may be considered AT as well.
As we know, TPGs will only list 1 problem type with problem coins. If it was both damaged and questionable color, and only one could be select for the grade, damaged sounds like the more serious of the two.

The holder notes “Rim repaired, unc details” i missed it as well, on the reverse above the motto…extremely flashy coin, no rub and the few marks/bumps are less noticeable in hand..
Should some repairs be considered market acceptable?

No and if you disagree, what types of repairs do you think should be considered “market acceptable”?

For a number of reasons (including the unusual color and the lighter colored central portion of the obverse portrait), this seems like an especially tough GTG, but I’ll go with MS64.

One concern I have regarding the color is the lighter obverse periphery and darker central portion. Typically, an original toned album coin will display the opposite pattern.
Can you clarify your meaning here? Thanks.
I think it's a beautiful coin but my knowledge is very limited with this type. I'm trying to be patient about acquiring one.

I think the color is attractive, but it would be unusual for a naturally toned example. I base that, both on the colors, themselves, as well as the lighter peripheral areas compared to the centers. That’s because in many cases, the peripheries tone first and are darker (not lighter) than the central portions of a coin.

Okay thanks that clarifies it. Your earlier remarks about lighter and darker central portion had me confused. I still like this coin and any implications wrt toning legitimacy would for me mainly be a resale consideration.

Nice coin sorry your post is turning into this mess.
What am I missing here? Walkerguy21D complemented Crusty and nobody else . I think everyone should get trophies 🏆 😎
That way feelings don’t get hurt!
