Home Buy, Sell, & Trade - U.S. Coins

I will be closing down my Colonial Registry later this month (8/22). It was fun

After a bunch of years collecting colonials, I decide to liquidate my modest set through one of the upcoming Heritage Showcase auctions. It has been fun in filling in those registry blank spaces along the way. I have both NGC and PCGS Registry sets, however, I enjoyed the NGC site a bit better as they allow both NGC and PCGS coins in the register.

And yes - i will be removing all of the pieces from my registration so there should be no complaints about trying to register one if you win one

NGC & PCGS both did a nice job in establishing their Basic Type sets in Colonials as it turned out to be a great vehicle for getting my feet wet in collecting the different design types and to experience the breath of the history and designs.

It does not appear to me that interest is as high in colonials as it could be ... they are so rich in history and with great story lines behind them.

If interested in colonials, this is the link to my listed pieces in the Upcoming Action.

Those are some great coins! Congratulations on building such a nice collection.

I agree with you about the interest in colonials. I've often wondered what more could be done about that.

I hope you have a very successful sale.

Congrats on your collection. They are truly wonderful coins!

I love the history of colonials but don't have many. Someday I hope to be able to collect them more.

What will you do now after selling your set? WIll you move on to other coins? Or are you taking a break from coins?

@retirednow.... That is a great set.... Lots of nice coins. Good luck with the sale. What lies ahead? Staying in coin collecting? Cheers, RickO

I think that you may be surprised by the interest that these coins will generate.
    Truly an amazing collection.
Best of luck in the outcome.

Thank you all for the positive comments, and I am not giving up the hobby

I have interest in US Patterns now ...I may pick up a few more patterns over the next year or so but for now I am selling mainly because I am getting older and time the scale down. I had sold off my US Large cent collection, my type sets of the Gold and Regular US coins over the past couple of years, I am now planning to sell off my Proof 3CN and Shield nickels within the coming year.

Patterns remind me much of the colonials as they all seem to have a specific place in numismatic history and both have the added dimension of being able to trace some of their pedigrees (or just appearances) back in time (at least into the 70's). I find it enjoyable to scan old auction catalogs searching, and now web sites like the Newman Portal make these so much more reachable. Unlike Golf - I can do this from the comfort of my lazy-boy with my laptop ... rain or shine.

Great to hear. Nothing wrong with selling once you've enjoyed the coins and are ready for a new adventure.
