Wow, hammered strike, but the spotting hurst the eye appeal for me.
I will call it MS65.

I would say 66, I am not a big fan of the spotting and patchy toning.
Same here...

It's hammered and I don't see a mark on it, but darned those spots and mottled obverse toning. Not my cup of tea, but PCGS seems to tolerate such. 65.
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

No cheating here ….. 66 🤔
Maybe 65 or 66? I'm not exactly sure how to go about the quality in strike on buffaloes, but can looking at the upper front leg area help determine the grade on mint-state examples? That's where my eyes always wander...
No matter the grade, I like the fields.

Looks very mark free, but the spots don't help it at all. 65 or 66 for a coin that could be 67 otherwise

if there are proofs for 1914, i'll guess pr65+
I'm in the pr camp at 65

PR64 or MS65 if not a proof.

The rims don’t look proof to me but everything else does. PF 64 to 65 for bad rims and lots of spots. If it’s a ms coin I like it if proof not so much
Martin
Well struck. I'll guess MS66 probably would say 67 without those carbon spots.

Looks to be a 66... spots could make it 65..... Nice Buff. Cheers, RickO
No guess. I found it.
IMO that coin is in dire need of conservation.
My guess is 65, but wouldn't be surprised if it was higher.

Reveal in a few hours, quite the spread here, which was actually what I was going for when I found this one.

Initial thought was proof until I talked myself out of that choice. Terrific strike... I am thinking 65 is possible

It appears that I’m in a small minority. Though I won’t be surprised if the coin grades 65 or higher, I think the spotting should knock it down to 64, if not 63.
My guess is that the spots are considerably less conspicuous in hand. However, I strongly dislike spots and wouldn’t want to buy that coin, whatever its grade.

Alright, here's the reveal. I'll admit that I wanted to throw out a coin that would trick some of you, so I went to coin facts and went to find Matte proofs that weren't entirely convincing. I don't own the coin, but it grades PR65.
Quite a a few people got the proof part of the grade correct, but quite a few more than I expected were tripped up. The spotting on this coin is what I think threw so many, as it is so very uncommon on proofs of this period. The rims also lack somewhat, but the bold strike and surfaces are indicative of a proof. Thanks to all who participated!

Expertise has many forms... Just because they can't accurately guess the grade from pictures doesn't mean they're not an expert... there are many experts on this forum and it's not very classy to make fun of them for mistakes on something that may not be their area of expertise...

And to add @WilliamF the grade assigned is only an opinion. The knowledge base from the experts here is well........excellent
And I thank them for contributing to this forum
