The REAL Hawaii Five-O nickel:
A scene from the 1973 "Hawaii Five-O" episode "The $100,000 Nickel"
The Mysterious Egyptian Magic Coin
Coins in Movies
Coins on Television
I remember when it first aired. It was a fun watch
I've never seen that closeup. Very interesting.
As I recall, the real coin was on the set or at least in Hawaii, but obviously it was never handled like that. I remember one shot where it was shown on a bar with other coins.
OK, I will try to find a link to a prior posting that referenced the nickel's worth "today."
Here is the IMDb link to that show episode. (no photos for this episode)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0598155/
And some Trivia from IMDb which I did Not verify.
Other rare coins and their values depicted in this episode are: 1879 four-dollar gold Stella - $18,000 (2021 values $800,000+ if coiled hair, $500,000 if flowing hair) ; Octagonal 1915 Panama-Pacific Expo $50 gold - $15,000 ( $280,000+); Round 1915 Panama-Pacific Expo $50 gold - $15,000 ($250,000+); 1796 Silver Dollar - $20,000 ($50,000 ,+); 1795 Liberty Cap gold Eagle - $12,000 ($250,000+) (2021 market values updated in parentheses, these are specimens in the highest graded condition). ( The 1913 Nickle is over $3 million)
And as noted above a Goof from IMDb
The coin Arnie drops in the newspaper machine is clearly a 1910 nickel, not the 1913 coin that was stolen.

OK, here is a link to one of the multiple Hawaii Five-O threads. This one from just last year to give a response to the inquiry as to the coin's worth "today."

I have never seen the show (Hawaii Five O), and likely will not since I really do not watch much TV. As I recall though, a rare coin was often the topic of some series... I seem to remember people talking about a Perry Mason episode, and I think there was some western show as well with a coin topic. Valuable coins seems to be a popular theme for a short adventure show. Cheers, RickO
I also stand corrected from my original post...the villain played King Tut on Batman, not Mr. Freeze!
There have now been two "Hawaii Five O" series. The remake has also ended, a few years ago. There were lots of great historical WWII and Hawaiian cultural story lines in that one, but none were coin-related that I can recall.
