Thinking about sending this in for grading - worth it? Getting good shots of these are tough!

I see it as XF-AU details cleaned and would not get it graded.

The coin has been circulated and it’s extremely doubtful that the cost of the grading could be recouped.

I would consider sending it in solely for the purpose of getting it authenticated. These were heavily counterfeited.

It’s true that they were heavily counterfeited. But it’s also true that enough potential buyers can tell the difference, so that it shouldn’t be difficult to obtain a fair price for the coin, as is.

I would keep it as is.... A nice, circulated gold coin. No sense in investing more in that one. Cheers, RickO

Au details, cleaned. Not worth the grading fees in my opinion.

There wasn't an AU cleaned option so I voted 58

I know it's hard to tell from the pictures but it doesn't look cleaned to the naked eye. It has one impact mark on the obverse by the nose primarily. It's also very reflective which is partly why the reverse is somewhat washed out I think. Additionally I've had it authenticated locally, so I'm not worried about that 👍

I may try again with my camera to see if I can highlight it better.

    Thanks for the input!

Seeing as how it appears to be lightly circulated, even if the coin has been cleaned, that will have very little impact on its’ value.

The wear on the headband limits my grade to XF-45.

I agree, the surfaces don't look right, cleaned...

No grade. I don’t like the rough surfaces on the reverse at all. It looks cleaned to me.

All the little tic marks lead me to believe it may have been a jewelry coin mounted in a bezel at one time.

I'm not sure it would grade. Appears to have been cleaned but I have been wrong many times before.

And it’s also true that enough potential buyers can’t tell the difference. Many people, including some dealers, have been fooled by some of the best executed counterfeits.

You say it very reflective. That’s why we say it’s cleaned 😉

I said AU55, but I also think it might have been cleaned. The reverse image is overexposed so I can't really evaluate it... as far as getting it slabbed, I think it depends on how you want your collection to look and whether you're looking for ROI from the purchase. At this grade, even if it straight graded, you'd have to wait for gold to go up significantly to recoup grading fees and shipping. Probably not worth it. For me, I see value in getting certain raw coins authenticated and I did so for my Quarter Eagle. I also had Trueviews done... but this is also part if the hobby... for me.

I’m seeing a lot of surface anomalies 🤔
