What a UNIQUE copper! Liberty on her headband have stand the test of time 🥰
Congrats on your 1823. Tough date.

CAC pop only 3. OGH. Actually Plain 4, NOT Crosslet 4. Slab coin number is incorrect.

I think it grades higher, but will not send it back, as I want to preserve the old holder.

The mint transitioned to the Lettered Edge variety at the tail end of the mintage of the flowing hair/wreath cent design, before switching to the Liberty Cap design in late 1793.
This humble example was recently added to the total pcgs population of about 200 certified in all grades:

Love this thread. Great coins on display.
When Trueviews of some recently graded 18th, 19th and 20th century circulation strike and proof copper I submitted post I will post them in this thread.
They include BN, RB, RD, Cameo and DCAM eye candy.
I have not acquired a copper cent in a long time, and reading this thread, I am jonesing for a large cent now... Guess I better start looking... Thanks for all the great pictures. Cheers, RickO

My vine &bars wreath cent example.
Also showing the difference in the edges, prior to slabbing the lettered edge example shown earlier:
Nice coin @Walkerguy21D !

The reverse on that one is great especially considering the damage on the obverse, and the vine/bars edge is really well defined still.
Heres my vine and bars wreath cent.

Those early cents just have so much more character, even in worn, poor, damaged condition like ours, @WilliamF !
Shifting gears, I was a little disappointed this one didn’t get a MS grade:
