Does this 1879-CC Morgan appear counterfeit?

I got this at an estate sale. Still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. The cc mint mark is so far off from any other 1879-cc I can find. However the VAM-6 is close. I just can’t find any other examples of VAM-6 other than the one example on VAM world. I wanted to run it by you guys and see what you think.
My coin:
Here is the example of VAM-6 on VAM world:
here is the link to the VAM-6:

Looks fake. The obverse shows a lot of missing detail and pudgy stars. As you noted, VAM 6 has a similar mint mark placement, but not exact. VAM 6 is quite elusive and arguably the most interesting 79-CC. Both dies are crumbled and have enough defects that when it was first found (a F-VF specimen), it was thought to be counterfeit.

Welcome to the Forum! I wish we had better news!!
Missing hair detail on the lower curls and the font on the 7 doesn't quite match up...

Welcome to the forum!
Looks like a counterfeit.
Hahaha thanks for the welcome, regardless!
Not genuine.
It appears counterfeit, almost certainly…when it arrives please weigh it and report the results!
I definitely will. If it weighs, measures, sounds correct then I will send it into NGC. I will post updates.

Good chance it will weigh correct and will be non-magnetic.
Before you send it anywhere check the mint mark placement and the surface texture.
There is a chance that by the time you get it back your window for a return will be closed.
When I first looked at it the detail in the lower cap and hair (from the ear down) is missing in multiple areas. One chunk of hair at bottom is floating by itself. Some letters appear to be missing the 'rounded' sheriff (squared) and 7 looks off.

Looks like a fake to me..... reasons above look like a molded reproduction. Cheers, RickO
The 7 is definitely different. I would return if possible. Good luck and welcome to the forum

it is counterfeit. is it in a GSA holder? no need to send it off, save your money.
if they sent it across state lines and give you any grief about a return/refund, you can jerk a serious knot in their tail. i'll wait to post useful links until we see how this plays out.
They did send it across state lines. If they refuse to refund me I will contact you to get your thoughts.

actually, as a preemptive, feel free to post the business name/address/website etc as someone had an issue recently, even though this other company has an active ebay (though the coin didn't come from there) they were playing hardball, apparently and not responding. (hopefully not in jail or dead as i'm sure it happens) in which case, really only 2 choices left, eat the loss or get authorities involved after a little time is given to respond. so the sooner the process is started, the better for everyone, especially if they will cooperate but doing some due diligence until then, it is good to be proactive.
you can jerk a serious knot in their tail.
Now THAT'S one I've never heard.
I am going to hold off until I see how they respond. They appear to be a smaller regional estate auction company… I am hoping it resolves amicably.
Uhoh, a youngster. lol

If they're a legit estate auction company, they have a state license. If it doesn't resolve amicably, their license is the tail into which said serious knot can be jerked.
