Recently inherited a 1912 TEN DOLLAR GOLD COIN with one side of the coin upside down to the other, is this possible on a genuine coin?

Yes. But I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying it is "medal turn" instead of "coin turn"? That is if you rotate the coin around the horizontal axis the reverse and the obverse are both oriented "up" as opposed to rotating around the vertical axis?

Sorry if I'm too technical about this.

ALL US coins have the reverse upside down relative to the obverse. As @daltex said, put the coin on a table so the bust is upright. Take the left side of the coin and rotate it be moving it toward your right. The reverse should be upside down.

Same thing happens if you take a currently circulating coin.

But it is also very possible to have rotated reverse errors.

This series has been heavily counterfeited. Can we get some high resolution pics?

Yes, a few pics help out in this case if possible. Welcome to the forum as well

OK I'm new to all this. If I take this coin and lay it flat so I'm looking at Liberty with Indian Headdress and flip it over from left to right I'm now looking at an upside down Eagle. Does this make it more understandable?

All US coins are like that. Take some pocket change and you'll see they are also like this.

Sorry, but I'm in the UK and our coins aren't like that.

This is all correct. When the coins are flipped left to right, UK coins will be upright but US will be upside down. This, however, will not determine if it is counterfeit or genuine. Other tests are needed.

On the toolbar above the thread post, go to the last one with a picture type image and click, then click on choose files, select and click on your image files one for the obverse and one for the reverse. Once you click the image file the URL will show up on the post tread. You can click on the preview button below to view your future post with images. The images should be orientated upright.

@stepsam13 .... Welcome aboard. Yes, that is the correct orientation on U.S. coins. Cheers, RickO

Confusion may stem from what you see in photos of U.S. coins on dealer websites, TruViews, etc. When the obverse and reverse are shown side-by-side, both are shown with the design "upright".

Thanks Mark, at least I now know that it isn't, as I've been told as a 10 year old, rare, because the head is upside down.

Thanks Slider23 I'll give it another go.

NO go. All I get when I click on the picture type image is a box with greyed out Image URL, no choose files

Correct. Your current Role is Applicant (as a new member) and will change to Member after a Mod reviews and approves. Then it will be easier to post pictures. Right now you can post pictures from some hosting websites (Flickr instagrams...) but not all and the format could also impact. To possibly do it would need to copy the image address (not copy image) and then do as above. Click that drop down box (Image URL) and paste the image address. Then hit enter. If it loads text into the comment box it probably worked (check using the Preview button and Edit to go back). If it does not load and does nothing it probably won't work from that website (or could be image format).

Example I saw Flickr that did not work but format of live static Flickr did work.
