10c 1798 Large 8 - Tracking The Cracking

Die Crack Progression - 10c 1798 Large 8

I started one of these with a different coin and it didn't develop very well. Then switched.

So I had seen a couple of these in auction or in inventory. I thought they looked neat and wondered how the cracks came about. So decided to see if I could track the cracks. From CF images and auction images it came together okay. I think it is kind of interesting how it started and progressed.

Before each photo(s) (one or two photos for each stage) I have a New and Previous which identifies the new crack(s) and the previous crack(s). Let me know if you see something messed up.

New - No die cracks
Previous - None

New - Die crack from lower chin into the field toward 4 o/c (1st photo - light crack and with tone ,a little difficult to see).
This initial crack does not change that much as the new cracks appear and grow. Did not expect this as first crack. I suspect there might have been an initial die flaw that was a little abnormal (larger) in the area.
Previous - No die cracks

New - Die crack from star 8 to 9 and crack from rim between star 11 and 12 (some light cracks between stars 8 to 11)
Previous - Chin crack + Top crack to nose
.

.
All cracks (as far as I found)
New - Die crack from Y (two) to star 8 and continues through stars to star 11. Crack from rim between star 11 and 12 to nose.
Previous - Chin crack + Top crack to nose + crack star 8 to 9 and between star 11 and 12

From HA https://coins.ha.com/itm/a/1271-3345.s
.
All cracks but perhaps a little heavier as some appear wider / thicker.
Notice the letter Y has changed and adjacent star 8. What caused this?
There is also some other soft-wide striking at some other stars and letters.
Chin crack has grown longer and more defined.

From the title I expected to be tracking the same coin through multiple crack-outs and re-auctions. :D

    Excellent study in die deterioration...

I also suspected a thread about cracking TPG holders! I'm pleasantly surprised! Thanks!!
