1868 Seated dollar newp. Often overlooked reconstruction era piece. I fear that I have the bug, now. :D Please feel free to comment or GTG. ;) PS the NGC Census is just 4/14!!

I have decided to give this Foundationally (absolute and conditional) RARE gal a home.

Very very nice. I think wear and marks are a 62 but nice looking strike and color so I'll give you a 62+

Beautiful coin. It's a shame that the cuts and scars hold it to 62, 63 max, but either grade I feel would deserve a +. Fantastic strike. Congrats.

It's hard to find those nice like that. I had one in an OH PCGS 61 slab that was toned and hard to sell.

The reverse is almost always nicer than the obverse due to less open space in the fields. Say MS 62 due to hits on obverse device and minor scratches in view's rt. obverse field. I have a No Motto Seated $ in MS 63 that doesn't have the number of hits that this one does.

In Unc., they're pricey. I got the type coins (59 O No Motto and 71 P With Motto) to save money. The former is not from the hoard and has Wayte Raymond album toning. The latter is a nice looking coin which has been dipped.

Nicest MS 61 I’ve ever seen and don’t feel like spending a decade looking for the one and ONLY NGC 62 example that is likely in VERY strong hands. PCGS has only 10 pieces in 62 and they likely don’t look as good as this one and, likewise, show themselves very infrequently. Pop/Census for 61 at both services combined is just 9/41. Other than the light hits on her face, she looks 63 to my eyes. Yes, I’ll take her and thank you for all the nice comments! Her foundational rarity boggles my mind! She will always have a place in my stable!!

That's a sweet coin in the pictures! A grade of 61 makes me think NGC thinks the surfaces are messed with just enough to not preclude it from grading or the classic 58 pushed to MS. What are your thoughts along this line?

I already told you my thoughts. And no way this is a 58…Anyone who knows how to grade can see that this is MS. I just think it was conservatively graded by NGC.

Trust me! I'm not knocking your coin at all! I think it's gorgeous! I'm just going by the pictures. The Boobies( >:) ) and Liberty's right shoulder could tell the scrutinous buyer it might have a little rub if buying from a picture.

Says the same guy who tried to tell me that my gem MS 65 1921 Walker was actually an AU coin. You’re either jealous or just not very astute, when it comes to grading.

LOL! I grade from pictures how I would buy from pictures! In hand is a whole different ballgame! Sorry I have offended you. :/

A lovely coin! I thought it was a 62. I'm glad it's not a 1859-o,1860-o,1871 or 1872 though they get tougher this nice.

  • Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 11,544 ✭✭✭✭✭

Beautiful and I’m staying with my thought that it’s a 62/63 liner in spite of seeing the grade.
I love that cameo obverse with the rim tone!

A nice coin. Congratulations. There are a few small hits through the obverse, particularly on the face and knee. May be the reason it's in a 61 holder. Or maybe the grader got a speeding ticket on their way to work! Either way go out and celebrae. Very tough series. I need seven coins still! Good luck on the hunt.

Given that it came from NFC, it is almost certainly true. They know what they're doing there.
