Hello all…
I recently purchased this coin a bit foolishly on Ebay… received it a few days ago and decided to check the cert number at NGC, search said “Possible Counterfeit “ …i emailed NGC , and here is what they said… :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
File a SNAD with ebay and get your money back.
Thank you, i KNOW Ebay will take care of me…not worried about that at all…i was hoping to get the word out about the website
@2windy2fish... Thanks for the link. That slab does look strange... When I first looked at it, I thought perhaps it was a new generation I had not seen before. Cheers, RickO
did my post get removed? maybe i didn't hit post comment?
i supplied the link to the ngc cert page and took me several minutes to get the large ngc images which looked pretty decent, especially for label comparison. the labels are LIGHT years different from each other.
what a bummer.

While this link and/or Doug Davis has been in multiple threads it is clear some have missed it.
@Aspie_Rocco you could add this link to your Resources thread (unless I missed it there already).

The Anti-counterfeiting Task Force, like the NCIS, is run by Doug Davis, so presumably everything ends up on the same desk.

So NGC search shows it as a possible counterfeit, you contact them and they tell you to report it to another site as a possible counterfeit. They authenticated it. I would expect a better answer.

@derryb I have to agree….many years ago i had a similar example with a China Mazu gold coin and was given the same answer after contacting NGC , return it to the seller for a refund..
OPs holder is a FAKE slab - note the genuine has a holographic brown bar and the counterfeit is flat...
NGC didn't authenticate it. They are passing along the information that the cert# is being used in a known counterfeit.
Other than reaching out to the original owner to have it reholdered and the certification canceled, what do you imagine NGC can do? Likely the original, genuine, has been sold five times since it was graded.

they could have confirmed it was in fact a counterfeit instead of telling owner to report it elsewhere as a possible counterfeit.

Uh, no. NGC is saying the coin and holder are fake. Therefore not their responsibility. Duh.

This was my first thought for a "numismatic crime"...

Unless they ask the OP to send photos, all NGC has is the Cert#. Which they know is still valid for ONE coin, but not the counterfeits.
