We have a lot of discussion on buying coins that meet our personal standards. Where are we basically buying our coins?

Yeah. I have done all except Online auction after in hand inspection.

Yes, I thought about that so I asked, "Where are we BASICALLY buying our coins?" Hopefully, not too many people have even 50-50 split. : )

Most of my coins have come from private transactions.

More than one of the above: local coin dealer, local coin show, eBay. I look for very different things from each seller.

The largest purchase I made this month consisted of seven pieces of exonumia from an estate via a friend in another state. Where does that fit in your poll?

Shouldn't that be "predominantly " not "basically" if that's what you intend?

All of the above. Can't be answered as is.

What is so special about May 1, 2021? I might have understood if you asked since the beginning of the pandemic. The date cutoff seems so random and irrelevant.

Most of the above, I like to be flexible, attention to detail, knowledge and a sense of value. I'm okay with that. Peace Roy

I initially wanted to say past year; but, that was too vague. I did not want to say since the beginning of the pandemic because that would pretty much eliminate in person transactions.

I chose coin show but I also went to brick and mortar coin dealers and also bought quite a few coins from members of the forum.

For me it’s been almost all of the above. The pandemic forced me to do more on-line, both in auctions and from dealers. The FUN shows, summer and winter, have been my only coin shows over the past couple of years. That is my preferred venue by far.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The final results of 34 votes on seven given options shows 52% of the participants bought from online auctions based on pictures. Today many collectors believe that these seemingly high auction prices are based on the belief a coin can be upgraded. Based on this survey, I wonder how many can be confident their bidding will result in an upgrade based on just pictures and not a coin in hand.

2 better ancients from an eBay seller-

    2 bust quarters from work-

One gold commemorate from a friend (that’s also a dealer)

    So basically three different sources.
