I’ve seen a lot of top pop proof Jefferson nickels this year. I’ve already spent my budget for the year. Unfortunately I could spend 5 maybe 6 digits on pre ‘64 nickels. Mostly because people with deep pockets have gotten into them. Just a few years ago they would be much cheaper. Good luck to those who can afford to compete for them at the levels these will go for.

Last Friday I put a strong bid on this one, at Heritage a coin I have wanted for over 25 years. Even though it had some problems. A couple of people bid higher, as oftentimes happens:

    i love it too!

This amazing lustrous gold toned peace dollar. Only a 64 but soo pretty and clean for the grade. My favorite coin Paid well over 64 money.

There are a couple of coins on my “gotta have” list. Unfortunately they’re also on my “gotta find” list.
    Amazing coins everyone!

I stopped building sets about 10+ years ago. Since then, my acquisitions have been mostly 'gotta have it' or 'really like it'. No rhyme or reason.... and too many to show here. I enjoy this type of collecting and will likely continue. Cheers, RickO

I pulled the trigger on this old classic.
In which, I haven't had any Bust coins in my collection. Until now.
    "Had to have it!"

Picked this up at the recent Central States Show, in Chicago.
    Thanks

Very nice coin. Looks so much better in eye appeal than a VF 20. I thought from first glance it was AU.

I wandered over to Heritage auctions to familiarize myself with the site and see what coins were available in that night's auction and spotted this coin. I HAD TO HAVE IT, so I bid two bid increments higher than the highest price for the grade in HA's database for my max bid. Without any experience with an online HA auction, I just hit the bid button repeatedly once the coin auction began. I freaked and bid so often that I accidentally bid $4K on the next coin up for auction, which was an 1851-O in MS65. Thankfully, I was outbid.

When the dust had settled, I had won the coin at my max bid and the winning bid remains the highest price paid for the grade in HA's database almost 14 years later. The 2nd highest price paid for the grade was for the same coin two years earlier.

    1851 WB6, PCGS VF35

Here's the "Yikes! Did I do OK?" thread I started here shortly after the auction closed. It was the most I'd paid for a coin at that time.
