No idea on value but that's a really nice find.
gratz. love me some good cuds and a double to boot!
pretty sure there are quite a few of this one out there but still has good value. cuds have a strong following. i've sold and owned thousands!
ran into a widow at a show selling off her husbands collection (happens time to time) and after a couple purchases at that monthly show, i asked just how much more she had and she said a lot, along with a lot of other non errors, so we agreed to a meet-up at her house (nowhere close to me) and all-in-all, her hubby may have came close to 10,000 cuds as me and a close friend had bought several groups prior to her and i meeting up. wouldn't surprise me if the overall value (just for cuds!) ran well into 6 figures before she started selling any off!!
i ended up selling 99% of them ALL to one person whom must have tens of thousands of cuds. a tremendous amounts of duplicates. just a hoarder, plain and simple and a wonderful person to work with and i don't really recall any hiccups in all our communications/transactions.

Of course I can google it but can someone here tell me how a cud is produced, is part of the die broken off?

Yes. Exactly.
Awesome find, dude!
In all my CRHunting, I only hunted down 2 of the Colorado Cuds. Never anything else. Esp. like your double cud.
Very cool. Congratulations

yup. like the post below you stated.
i will add, the early stages (pre-visual confirmation) can come from clashes (dies banging together w/o a coin between) causing, chips, cracks, breaks, retained, cuds etc. and even with flans (coins) between, just the constant extreme pressure and contact will cause dies to start fracturing/compressing/expanding, tilting of the dies, even a little, perhaps obstructions, multiple coins, collar?, etc etc. also if the dies aren't produced and treated/tempered or whatever properly, this can and does significantly decrease the life also causing all sort of whacky effects. now you got me thinking, i wonder if the early-early stages can even go all the way back to going from hub to master die to working die? those are the stages where we get ddo, ddr, tdo, tdr among other errors, so i guess it makes sense.
sometimes we get just few examples where the broken off part(s) are actually struck through the initial coin(s) and these are much scarcer and more valuable and when the planets/moons align (like as of late) we get the coin(s) and actual pieces that broke off slabbed together! cuds with struck-through frag with letter transfers are pretty neat-o!

What I find especially interesting is that in those years the mint was pushing dies to the limit and nickels from these years often show the "orange peel" effect.
This coin does not show that deterioration but broke in two places.
Nice score
Super cool find!!

Super coin.
Nice find.
I cannot speculate on it’s value.
