Back to Roots: Basic Buffalo

You know, like many as time goes by and perhaps a bit of experience (and resources) accumulated, we move on with our tastes & generally to more expensive coins & in so doing lose track of our roots IMO.
So a few years ago, every now and began to pick up raw coins here or there and nothing too fancy. Here is one that I like and a good honest coin:

And a mintmark to boot!

Coincidently I have a couple old (old) albums and have been filling up a few holes in hopes to finally fill them (or mostly fill them).

Yep, it is a nice "honest" Buffalo nickel that happens to be a key in the series.

Too bad the scratches will doom it to details (maybe).

It's an AU early date that will fit well into a high-grade set with no problems.

Ah nice & the picture is terrible. There actually is some mint lustre hidden in there. I was surprised at the scratches because I can't see them in hand (maybe my eyes need checking). I will try to post some other pictures...

That is a nice Buff... I do see the scratches, but they are minor. I like the random acquisition of coins - I too am in that mode. It is fun and certainly less stressful than building sets. Cheers, RickO

Yes, that is so true and makes it rather enjoyable. I have gotten a 1932 S Washington and the 1909 S and 1909 S VDB in the same way. Even an 1875 CC double eagle.

AS they say one thing can lead to another, nice pick-up on the 15-S they are a tough one to get, you did well. If you have the rest of the Buffs to go with it you'll have quite the collection,

Ah, sadly no. Over the years a 1913 S (T1), 1914 S, 1916 S and bog standard 1938 D. Maybe a couple of others but am not pressed to fill out the series. I really like this one better than the other mint state buffs, and better than the CC gold believe it or not....
