Syd Martin sale at Kolbe & Fanning

Some extremely strong prices and some frankly irrational ones.

Did anyone buy anything?

I bid very strongly on one lot that I need for my collection of works by Jose Toribio Medina but the price was just took strong.

My favorite head scratchers were the Rosa Americana and Woods deluxe editions which sold for 1.5-2X what they can be bought for on the Kolbe and Fanning website.

    .
I suppose the premium is due to Syd's provenance?

Exact same book from the exact same source. All deluxe editions Syd had printed. Zero difference other than sales venue.

Then it must be the obvious emotions and subsequent auction fever.

I have attended a lot of live auctions (coins, guns etc.) and always enjoy watching the bidders. The psychology of auctions is the challenge and proliferation of testosterone. Cheers, RickO
