CENTRAL STATES COIN SHOW next week - who's going?

I'm really looking forward to this "new and improved" Central States Coin Show in Schaumburg next week. It looks like they are pulling out all the stops to make this a very successful event, and from all the buzz I've heard, I think it will be a very active show. Of course, I plan to do my usual show report and will let you know how it goes. I would also love to have photos of any forum members who attend, so please stop by my table so I can put you in my report. I will be there set up at table 508, so which of you forum members are going? Dealers feel free to post your table numbers.

Special Exhibits: First Time Ever!
For the first time ever, the Big 4 of American coins will be on display together at the Central States Convention! In addition, there will be amazing examples of Large Cent "Sheldon" varieties from the Ellsworth/Husak collections. These displays will be open for all convention attendees to view!
The Big 4:
Four of the most famous United States rare coins with a combined face value of only $1.16 but insured now for $19 million will be displayed together for the first time at the Central States Numismatic Society convention. One of the four great rarities in the upcoming special display is the finest 1804 Draped Bust dollar, the Sultan of Muscat example that has rarely been seen since 1998. The three other coins in the exhibit will be the Eliasberg 1913 Liberty Head nickel, the Eliasberg 1894-S Barber dime, and a 1943 bronze Lincoln cent wrong planchet error.
The Ellsworth/Husak Sheldon Large Cent Registry Set Comparison Exhibit:
Two of the most celebrated collectors of early large cent varieties are Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth and Walter J. Husak, both of whom are longtime numismatists with broad name recognition in the hobby. While dear friends going way back, they’re rolling their sleeves up for some friendly competition at the Central States Numismatic Show in Schaumburg, Illinois, held April 27-30, 2022, where the two are submitting several of their large cents for a head-to-head matchup in the proverbial numismatic boxing ring. - Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez, Rare Coin Market Report.

Hi Charmy!

So glad your coming to my home town. Chicago is beautiful, however you coming along will only beautify the city even better. Lol.

@ThePennyLady .... Thanks for the detailed alert for the show. Looks as if lots of forum members will be going... Charmy, your show reports are always outstanding - looking forward to this one. Also, reports from other members as well, they are important to show different perspectives and purchases. Cheers, RickO

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
Thanks everyone - looks like we'll have a nice group of forum members attending. I look forward to seeing you, and don't forget to remind me to take your photo for my show report (in case I forget to ask)!

A fairly quick in & out for me - Spring game on Saturday!
Wished I could go. Only been to one central states show before, which was the last one held in Michigan. I think I picked up my 1876-CC $20 at that show.
Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.
The ANS will be there!

There needed to be vintage-style fight promotion posters made of this. I'd say PCGS dropped the ball on this, but I'm just thinking of it today, myself. Of course, I'm not sure whether I want to see them posing with boxing gloves, dueling pistols, or perhaps a manga version dueling with Yu-gi-oh cards.
See you at the show. I'll be at table 805.

I’ll be there. Is the Early Bird worth it for $125? At some shows I’ve found that 1/2 the dealers aren’t there or set up yet.
Your experience of 1/2 sounds about right. The dealers file in from dealer door open time to public open time depending upon their own situation. As far as worth it, that is kind of an individual thing.

The price of an Early Bird shows the absolute greed of this club!
I will have a Wall Street Jornal under my right arm and a white carnation in my lapel.
The day is finally here. See you all after work today. Should be there around 10am. I hope the dealers didn't sell everything yesterday in the pre-Show action with wholesalers.

Somebody screwed up big time!
I have never had a problem with walking in the convention center, throwing down my money (since they started charging) and walking into the borse.
This year was a train wreck, I will let some other members elaborate.
Quite the lead-in, waiting for the full story.

My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Do you mean the long line to get in around opening time?
They mentioned needing to update their database and that caused registration to be slower. The attendance seemed to be larger than previous years too.
Also, PCGS members get in free. All you had to do was show the email PCGS sent to you a few weeks ago (I believe it was sent twice).
My Experience!
Sure, the lines were super long. You must expect this after the pandemic closings from the previous years. Patience is definitely needed. All I did to kill time was converse with the person behind me. Lol.

The guy I was talking with had very interesting stories about his Walker set and all the cross grading he had done with PCGS. Believe me guys, the time flew! This is coming from a guy who just hates when I get stuck by a train in traffic, ask my wife!
To me, it was worth the wait. Thurs was AWESOME! What a smorgasbord of tables and coins! This show was most different for me. I bought two coins that I never ever bought in my life!
One was a 1852 3-Cent Silver and the other was a 1831 Bust Half Dollar. With "Doubled Letters" on the rim. #501 variety.
This place is beautiful!

Stopped by Charmy's table to meet her but she was too busy. Lol
Maybe tomorrow?

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Enjoyed my time at the show. Took almost an hour to get in but great after that. Maybe tomorrow there will be more than one person collecting registration cards and money from single day non-member visitors. The line was a bit crazy.
Once in I had a nice conversation with Chris from Northeast Numismatics. Great dealer to work with. From there went to check in with Doug Winter. He is always great to talk with. His knowledge is incredible. From there it was time to check in with the Witter team. Seth was nice enough to take some time and discuss his gold offerings.
I came away empty today but may return tomorrow.

The line to get in was like the "Loaves and Fishes", it just kept getting longer and longer and never ending, never had this problem before.
After about a half an hour I entered nirvana, a place I have not seen in three years and it was beautiful!
The first thing I did noticed was.....coins sure have got expensive, I mean really expensive!
I was on a single mission (Two Cent Pieces), so my stay was only about 4 hours. Since my set is "complete" I was just looking to upgrade a few (several) of my coins. In the end I upgraded three coins, 1868 from a 63 brown to a 65 brown, 1869 from a 63 brown to a 65 brown and my biggie was an 1864 SM 64 to a 65+SM CAC.
I would like to thank Andy and his wife from Angel Dees and Brian at Harbor Coin. Brian purchased a coin from me that many dealers would not even look at, it was in an old ANACS holder. Brian actually looked at the coin and appreciated the coin for what it was.
I will try to post some images tomorrow.
Thanks to all for the additional show commentary. Certainly seems this is a dynamite show. Several common thoughts... High prices, lots of tarnished coins, coins are being purchased and sold in spite of prices.... I do believe the market is very healthy right now. Cheers, RickO
