Detached Planchet Lamination or Strike Through
I found this interesting. This 1902 S Morgan was sold via Legend auctions and a flaw on the reverse was described as a detached planchet lamination. As noted in the description it is on the reverse adjacent to the R in dollar.

True view
So what I found interesting is the following true views below.
I am not an error type or knowledgeable in striking but...
This has to be in the strike does it not? Something on the die? Perhaps the noted initial detached planchet lamination?
Opinions, thoughts.
I wonder how many more are out there?

Looks like at least 3 more at HA (I stopped looking after a few pages).
Do not appear to be the same ones as the amount / shape of defect changes.

Hard to tell from the pics, but it does look like a strike through to me. It's a minor error, so my guess it doesn't make a big difference if it's a strike through or detached lamination, but it would be nice to be accurate IMO
If repetitive, and it seems to be in at least a couple of the other cases, it may be a strike through... Would need better images or in hand evaluation. Cheers, RickO
I was finding it interesting that there are now 7 coins with this error / flaw. Also the error / flaw changes from coin to coin. So if a strike through it would seem that the material causing the strike through is diminishing or something is causing it to change. A couple of the HA coins show the least error / flaw in size and depth. As I said I am not an error type but is this somewhat normal to find so many of the same strike throughs? Also the changing shape and size.
Thanks will try to update title with ST.

Okay so it is a strike through. Thanks.
Also I am assuming since there are multiple similar strike throughs here that something stuck to the die and that having multiple strike throughs is not that unusual.
Since these strike throughs vary in shape, size and depth (but same location) I assume that what ever was stuck to the die started to crumble and pieces fell off yielding a slightly different strike through.
Finally since these all grade MS64 to 67 I would think that they went into a mint bag and spent some time together in a bank vault before being released some decades later saving them from some circulation and damage. Therefore maybe not as unusual as it appeared (to me).
PS - I used to own an 02 S with this defect and why I noticed it on others and wondered.

The interfering substance was hard enough to survive numerous die strikes until it disintegrated. How fast were the Morgan dies banging out dollars?
