Key date Walker, fine or very fine?

logger7logger7 Posts: 8,684 ✭✭✭✭✭

I picked up this coin in a collection, sold right away. I was thinking fine possibly vf, apparently the buyer thought the latter. How would you grade?

I don't like the rim damage at 3+ o'clock on obverse and reverse, which looks like it might be a problem, but from a details perspective, I'm a VF.

IDK, I'm thinking VG/Fine but pictures can be deceiving as it sorta looks as was cleaned/polished once

i'd probably have to pull up photograde for the delineation but iirc, vf = 2 booby lines

I'm thinking VG10 would be this coin's grade. Just an opinion.

From what I can tell from these photos (I know I’m the last one that should cast dispersions on others’ photos!), I’m not seeing Vf. F15 probably. Still very desirable for a 21D, assuming it’s an original gray coin with no detractors.

However I see raw coins like this offered as Vf at shows all the time. And hey, for you, I can sell at it Bid!

My grading coins from photographs with descriptions by QDB says a vf should have most skirt lines except over the leg and to the left and right. The lower part of her cape is worn. On the reverse, most feathers in the wings are delineated but weak. On a fine, the skirt lines and sun rays weaker....So nothing definitive and the VF20 they have in the book seems to have more detail.

    I won't give it point over Fine-15.

There are two ways to look at the grade. According to the Grey Sheet, the price jumps from $440 in Fine to $750 in VF. That might make the graders conservative. On the other hand, grading for circulated coins is often soft with these guys. Therefore, it might be "their" VF-20.

I'm also the last to be casting aspersions on someone else's images... probably just the angle and lighting... but I'm seeing closer to F12 than VF...

If I was buying the coin from that picture I would be at VG money! >:)

A buyer who thinks a coin is a lower grade than the seller? That's probably never happened before. ;)

I am in the VG camp... Not VF....Might even be a little lower. Cheers, RickO

To paraphrase Lance, 2-Bs or not 2-Bs...that is the question. Not 2-Bs, so not VF.
