Franklin half reverse - frost bleeding into fields ?
I was watching this and find the reverse rather interesting. It has a milk spot but also some frost bleeding into the fields. I have heard sometimes this is caused by the acid used in making frost on the dies. I have also heard sometimes it is an altered coin with a putty like material applied on the devices that is degrading. What are your thoughts on this coin?

I see a milksop over the F in "HALF", but I don't see frost bleeding into the fields. If you mean the areas around the lower portion of the left side of the bell and between the bell and the eagle then I interpret them to be photographic artifacts.

the spot above F is a problem and can/has damaged the surface.
the others MAY just be reflection.
so the white to the left and right of bell is most likely a reflection off the fields?
It is from the image and not on the coin. Absolutely.

I forgive many coin indiscretions, yet I cannot make peace with milk spots.

ugh. one of those situations where you posted after i opened the thread but before i made my post; otherwise i wouldn't have duped what you just said. lol
Can you post a photo of the front of the slab?
My initial reaction based on your description is that it might be artificially frosted. But the coin does not look as bad as I expected.

Here you go, sold near $35 at auction today (I passed but was watching)
From the pictures provided, I am not on board with the DCAM. Was it enhanced?

Kennedys are my quest...
The ACG slab is telling. I doubt anyone was artificially frosting proofs just to get them into an ACG slab. I was thinking the coin was in a PCGS holder instead.
So I don't really know what might be going on with the surfaces. I'd sure like to see it in hand.

Regardless, of holder, questionable Cameo, grade and/or the bleeding.

I love the coin's appearance.
Very pretty!

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Isn’t easier to get an artificially DCAM into a lesser grade holder than a TPG one, granted a PCGS one would provide a higher profit with the cost of enhancing being the same?

I am thinking the reflection theory is good.
I do not know what a coin like that would have been worth in the early 80's.
Too bad it has that milk spot. Otherwise, a nice looking Franklin half from what I can determine. Cheers, RickO
