Old school Barber album filled

moursundmoursund Posts: 3,207 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've been working on this album for several months. I've enjoyed buying coins from eBay, but I confess that I have 'settled' in some cases for coins that were 'good enough' for the album.

Working on this Barber half album has given me a better appreciation for the look I really like in a barber coin. I think I will start on a Barber dime album, and be more particular in my selections.

If all of my barber dimes could look somewhat like this 1906 half, I'll be happy. 🙂

So now this album gets put away for a while...

I used to work with a guy who once had the Whitman tri-fold Barber dime album complete. Including the 1894-S. Genuine.

    Way to go.
Filling up an album always cockles my heart but now am slowly starting to get sucked into the whirlpool of slabbed registry after seeing some of the dazzling well preserved coins out there.

Nice set! I like the look of that 1901-S too!

  • gumby1234gumby1234 Posts: 5,591 ✭✭✭✭✭

That 1896 S has to go. Those huge scratches take away from the whole look of the album. Otherwise looks very nice.

Great! Especially when you are aiming for a particular look or grade range, Barber halves are actually quite challenging.

That is cool. I'm working on a raw set of Barber halves too, but in VG-F or so. Looks there is lots of competition.

Congratulations on completing the set! Barber halves look great in circulated condition.

Congratulations on completing your set. I like raw coins in an album. Your set demonstrates uniformity. Better than a pile of slabs IMO. Cheers, RickO

Congratulations on a job well done! You should be VERY proud! You must be very excited about starting the challenge of the Barber Dime set.

So, since you’re the guy on this Forum with clearly the best sense of humor (which I always truly enjoy), here’s a bad one:

A collector friend of mine got tired of his Barber Quarter set, so when he needed cash, he sold it on the BS&T. He told me though that he had to take a haircut with the pricing he ended up getting, lol.

May I suggest, for a change of pace in terms of quality and length of time to complete, an Everyman MS Barber Dime date set with only the Philadelphia mint coins. Some of these dates are much more scarce than realized.

I also worked on a circ Barber set awhile back except I didn't get it finished yet. Worked on a Walker album. It was fun just looking for these on eBay. Just about everything you want is there and with no coin shows to go to around here you can kill a lot of time and actually find stuff

Fortunately, no slot for it in the album... 🥳

I like album collecting also. I probably have more albums then anyone else. They are still fun, but very overpriced these days (empty albums that is)
