A funny little tag, something green, some dirt and smooth swirling luster under it all - a CBH story

About a week ago I finally decided to make an offer on a coin that's been on eBay for a while. One of those that perpetually makes my watchlist, but one I never really buckled down and studied enough to considered a real offer.
The picture was tilted just wrong enough with flat lighting, and eBay kind sucks for me, because CA is bound and determined to get their vig' on the purchases for the majority of any single coin I might buy there.
Also, try as I might, I couldn't seem to get the seller to contact me off eBay so we could discuss.
Anyway, I digress. I looked again, because I kept thinking, that looks like it could be a nice coin.
And then it hit me ... the little tag on front with the attribution ... Wait a minute, I know that writing!
So began a deeper dive into tracking something down. Different pictures, and discussions and ... hmmm ... yeah, maybe indeed! And knowing that handwriting made ALL the difference.

Oh I did say "green" too, right? Well, it's St. Patrick's Day, and she already has a green bean!

Do you know the first tag? I think we all get the second one.

Okay, without further ado, here she is ... as always, your thoughts, comments and feedback are always appreciated!

An great original coin. I wouldn't be surprised if it spent a lot of time in a major railroad town. Years ago a dealer in half dollars described a "look" that silver coins exposed to the smoke of locomotives developed. That coin has that "look".
That is a gorgeous coin and looks like it did honest work.

This one came out of #42 ... and she's been with the seller ever since as far as I can tell.

I also have the pictures from one of our boards ace photographers (and a good friend) from when it crossed his desk.
Much better than mine, and if you open them in a new window you can moon-walk the coin!

A beautiful, original half, Todd….and one certainly very deserving of its green bean, and of course, being in your incredible set. I love the strike on her, not to mention, all the dirt in just the right places.
Congrats on another most excellent pick up!

That is a very nice old coin... Great condition for 196 years old.... No idea whose writing that is... Well... One idea - It is not my writing.
Cheers, RickO
