What’s with the coin’s evil eye?
I can’t get it out of my mind.

    This is a painful process

Why heave snarky comments that don’t even apply to the situation?

It would be kind of you to edit your comments on this thread

Sounds like you support Chinese counterfeits. Not sure why are you supporting the Chinese ruining our hobby. This poor man probably lost money on this coin.

The coin should be back in a couple days. I'll post weight, test the gold content and then my own photographs rather than the old auction photos which might not have correctly captured the coin, especially the color. The auction photographers often photographed inside a white tent which made the coins seem bland and washed out. I finally taught them how to correctly photograph coins and it is much better now. In my memory, the coin is darker than the yellowy color here but my new photos hopefully will show that.
Will take it to Baltimore show and get other opinions

Just out of curiosity, why do you plan to get other opinions? Are you still unconvinced that it’s a counterfeit?

The title of this thread is very misleading. This coin was never graded. Once it was determined to be counterfeit, there was no point in grading it. Grading and authentication are two different processes even though the same person may perform both processes.

I guess I am entitled to do that.

Weight is 129 grains and it tests electronically at 22k. They did provide a reason - False Dies
Getting it melted will provide more value than what I paid in 2018.

You may want to try to sell it to a jeweler for close to melt who can use it in jewelry.

Of course you were. But after all of the feedback you’d already received, I was curious as to what it would have taken at that point, to convince you that it wasn’t a counterfeit. But it sounds like you’re now convinced.

I think a grade, plus an opinion, would be a very valuable service provided by PCGS. But there would need to be an extra cost and what that might be, may not be insignificant. But for some coins it would definitely be worth a premium cost.

But for the most part it will probably more economical to just resubmit the coin for regrade a few times.

Way too many things to list as to why it’s a counterfeit. Just compare the stars and their locations. That’s just the tip of the iceberg here. The first thing that caught my eye was the Indian’s eye. Completely off. It goes on and on. I collect these so it stands out.

Could it be they do not want to tip off any "tips" to would be counterfeiters? Am not singly out the poster nor making any insinuation.

All very good points mentioned above.

There was a reason listed for the counterfeit status by PCGS, as previously mentioned "False Dies"
