Is this an error?

I was strolling through ebay and noticed something off on the front of this Morgan.

What exactly am I looking at and would this demand a premium?

Looks like a strike thru of a hunk of something hard. Curious but no premium. Peace Roy

Error? Yes
Collectible? I don’t know
Yes, it's a struck through error.

Seems like that should preclude an MS70 grade, so the number seems like an error.
If there are not many strike through errors in this series (modern $$) then yes it will bring a premium....not much but some. Time will tell, I guess (I'd rather have this example than one without).

That was my follow up question.

The coin gets a condition grade relative to bag & contact marks
The error is “as struck.” It’s not a dent after it left the ment.
Yep, struck through error. Pretty cool.
I kind of like it.

How do the let ogp lint inside the caps?
It is just a defective coin in my opinion. Not only would I pay no premium for it, I would avoid it completely.
Granted, it is a minor ST. Fact that it is a modern piece and supposedly QC is so much better, it's escape must be considered more difficult. Ergo, a higher than normal price may be applied here over older examples, that slipped through the cracks much more easily way back when. Or at least that is an accepted theory out there.

Yes it is an error. It's probably struck thru grease, but since there isn't any retained in the strike thru, it is written up as simply "struck thru."
I would not buy this coin if I saw it being offered up for sale.
It might meet all the requirements for the grade, but it doesn't meet mine.
As stated above, it is a strike thru.

Kennedys are my quest...
Indeed a struck through.... Not much premium I would think. The mint mark looks repunched... probably not, but magnifying the picture shows an anomaly with the back of the D. Cheers, RickO
