Funny. Lots of folks are making private silver rounds.

I think they should make a few hundred and send them out as random additions to the yearly mint sets. That'd possibly resurrect interest in those and wouldn't leave a gaping hole in the short, commemorative, (money-grabbing???) series.

I am both disappointed, and fine with this. 1 less thing to jump on at 12 noon and try to "beat the clock" to get one (or 2).
I hope this means they'll have enuff silver now to make both the ASE proof W & S. (Hoping they reopen the enrollment for the ASE proof S.)

Well that sucks oh well next year.

How do folks think this will impact the 2021 series? People lose interest and they go down, or the anticipation grows which causes prices to increase.

When the mint did not produce the 2009 ASE, it left a sour taste in my mouth for several years.
Many collectors stopped buying them. Several years later, I stopped buying them.
Since they will not mint any of the Morgans or Peace dollars for 2022, many will stop collecting or buying them, me included.
The mint is not helping its image by not producing these coins.
What they charge for them is ridiculous anyway.

When they did not mint the 2009 ASE, I stopped getting the series. I was not planning on the Peace or Morgans this year, but would be discouraged if I were planning on it. Cheers, RickO

I’m disappointed- they were meant to be proof finishes this year and I was not so impressed with 2021 version.
However, with the way things are going right now in the world maybe by 2023 the peace dollar will arrive in time to symbolize the same as it did in 1921 - the end of a world war ....

I'm surprised they didn't just say limited to 2022 of them.

With all of the other silver coins and medals they are minting they are going to say shortage of silver planchets for the Morgans? I'm not sure if that excuse adds up......... hmmmmm

I'm surprised they would issue them in 2021 and then take a break before issuing again in 2023. If they were simply celebrating the centennial then 2021 should have been sufficient, but if they were going to create a new series of commem dollars then it would make sense to issue them each year in order to keep interest up and to keep profits coming in.

They are still listed in the Mint's 2022 product schedule listing.
If this is true, the Mint continues to screw up. If a silver shortage, the Mint should get rid of some of its other silver coin products and continue with the 2022 Morgan/Peace dollars.

I seem to remember that the morgan/peace planchets were slightly different in metal composition and size than what they normally use. I do not have a source as it likely was on a older thread here so not even sure if its true.

The one time 2021 set was neat, I really liked the 2021 Peace Dollar. As an ongoing series I'm not so excited although I probably would have picked up a proof Peace. With the year gap it will be easier to pass in my opinion. And as far as going forward I would consider the Peace set but why bring the Morgan forward past '21?

No interest in the 2021, so no interest in future issues either. The price is ridiculous.

This is disappointing. I was okay with reviving them in 2021 to go forward as a series, but not if there is a break already for a year (or more?). I have a few extra 2021 and hope someone - hint @dcarr will fill in for the US Mint for 2022.

Sorry @Peace_dollar88 I didn't mean to step on your thread, I looked quickly and didn't see it. I know many were counting on the proofs and who knows if they will make them in 23, there could be worse situations...just sayin'.

  • fathomfathom Posts: 1,778 ✭✭✭✭✭

They can't pull a few ASE numbers down?

Tell the supplier to reformulate the planchet?

So increase the cost, they were to be proofs only anyway.

That cuts me down to zero Mint items I’m interested in this year.

I think most people would be willing to do without silver American Women Quarters in order to have 2022 Morgan and Peace Dollars. I think clad only for the American Women Quarters would be fine.

The Morgan and peace are .858 oz silver and 1 oz commemoratives are .859 silver. Some genius work there. Can’t switch them. 🤨

Out of all the silver coins the Mint is offering this year, the Morgan and Peace dollars would have been the best.

  • LukeMarshallLukeMarshall Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭✭✭

It would have been cool to have a proof 2022 Peace, although I didnt care for the 2022 Morgan idea to be honest.
Since there will be neither, I think they should kill the program moving forward and keep it a one year "Commemorative" edition. Heck if the Mint is having trouble sourcing planchets in 2023 this may turn out to be the case... but time will tell

It's all about what the people want...

    I'm not surprised.

It’s pretty cool the way the mint learned this trick Give em three W pennies, then promise the nickels but out of nowhere drop the third W nickel . There’s so much more get people to pay months ahead and wait months for shipping. Then get us prepared for a new series and then cancel it. I hope they figure it out, seems like they are trying, sometimes but then. 😉
