Saw this the other day, OGH and cac and hot 21 Peace Market working in unison.

Two weeks ago, I offered another dealer 600 for a Raw 58 that was spectacular, and he said no.

Looks like a nice 65, but not a 66. Crazy.

$14,500?? Will there actually be a buyer ??? That's nuts.

All you need is 2 people with deep pockets that want the same coin. Looks like biders #5 and #6 are going to be fighting to the finish..........

Great strike for a '21 but enough marks that I wouldn't call it undergraded at MS65. Nice coin, I'm sure the new owner will be happy with it. Not as happy as the consignor I would imagine.

This money only makes sense as a 66; 65 & 65+ CAC going $4k to $6k in recent auctions. Bidders have to believe it would upgrade. I'm not contradicting Bryce, he may be right!

Maybe the slight hint of some toning, to the right side of the obverse field area, piqued/contributed to the bidders interest.

A 1921 Peace MS-65 just sold on eBay for $3705, well in back of the $4150 price shown by PCGS. It was a nice coin, solid for the grade. I was an underbidder

I know the danger of grading from pics, but that Great Collections dollar looks very nice and obviously some think worth MS-66 money.

I like the reverse! It almost looks as good as my PCGS MS-63!
And it too has a little bit of toning on the edge.

Now why would you want to get in between 2 morans with deep pockets?
That 1921 looks like an normal MS65 coin in an OGH with a CAC Not worth it IMO

Been observing that many coins in OGH are conservatively graded or possibly undergraded

I agree but this coin has a green bean NOT a gold bean

It is an extreme long shot; but, it does happen that a coin with a green bean will also get a green bean the next grade up. : (

Nice to see it going for very strong money but it looks like very bad bid strategy between 5 and 6 in my opinion.

Might be in the minority here, but that looks like a very high end 65 to me. Obverse and reverse.
Crazy to gamble that kind of $ on a single image though. Especially if you subtract the OGH and CAC with a crack out.

I agree @Weiss - it is a really nice strike and eye appeal - I think it’s worth less than half of the current bid ... maybe 5 to 7k tops.
The biggest issue I see is that by paying this price this piece is now locked up and likely never sold again (since it would likely be at a loss) and only makes the demand for 1921 peace dollars even stronger and supports higher prices - the more that are sold at top market and then permanently removed from the market the higher the price goes as long as the demand is there. I have said for years the 1921 in nice well struck examples are extremely rare and If popularity or demand increased it would shoot up in value. Never expected such a dramatic increase but the anniversary mint release may have triggered that. But I still think well struck, nice looking 21s are extremely rare and hard to find. Nearly ALL of those on eBay at 64 and 65 are weakly struck and / or weak eye appeal / luster.

Here is a raw one that went for almost 7k - and this particular seller has been selling raw coins with significant hairlines as reported in early posts on this board - this is a lot of money for a coin likely to get “no-grade 92 details cleaned” from PCGS ... just sayin

That is a very nice Peace Dollar, but not even after a full bottle of Cabernet would I pay that price.... Cheers, RickO

There’s no “maybe an outlier...” about it. As has already been pointed out, a number of other MS65’s have sold for well less than half that price, recently.

I am forming a registry set of Peace Dollars with CAC stickers. It is a very difficult set to complete at high grade. Auction prices are currently much higher than CAC guide. My $1 dollar type set which I retired had a higher graded Peace $1 without CAC that I purchased for less a couple of years ago.
