I have a similar design 1805 50c I may submit some day. Probably the oldest coin I own - dont remember when I picked it up, or from where (gramps maybe?)?
Definitely there was some net grading going on here. The sharpness grade is a VF-25/30, but there is some pitting on the reverse. The coin was probably dipped in some sort of a chemical years ago. I think that Fine-15 might have been a more appropriate net grade.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
It's a nice coin, maybe net graded a bit but still VG10 seems harsh. It's also the rarest variety for the year, and probably top 3-4 rarest for the draped bust series.
Before I looked at the photo of the coin in the holder I would have said F15 based on wear. It may have been net graded downward because of the light scratches on the obverse.
When struck it looks like it was pretty well all there. One star on the reverse not as well represented. Looks like it bought a lot of things in it’s life.
I guess I saw a hard working 25.

I’m at F15+…..even with the grade posted.
Looks like the grader was shooting for a gold CAC on that one!
I was going to guess VF25 possible scratches. VG 10 seems a bit low.
I was going to guess VF20... wow...

I think its a F+, but the obverse looks a little off. perhaps they net graded it.

I was thinking VF20, minimum but the reverse is a little different. I think @BillJones has it right.
The asking price is for a VF30 coin, yet it is a bit of a scarce variety.

Tough grade. I was at 15-20.

I like that coin. David ! The price is just too high.
I actually thought it was cheap.
I was going to say 20... Still looks like a 20.... I hesitate to second guess an in hand grader though.... So probably a fair grade. Cheers, RickO
I would have said F15 -- nice coin!
