Cherry Picking: 1931 S Buffalo nickel DDR FS801 DDR-002, 2-R-IV

One of my Cherry Picks outside my normal collection is this 1931 S Buffalo with a Doubled Die reverse FS801. This DDR exhibits doubling on the fringe/hair of the left front leg as well as being visible in E PLURIBUS UNUM with extra thickness and a sharp point on the B of Pluribus. A common die marker for this coin is a specific crack running from the U of UNITED through the top of the animals head and through its forehead.
Here is the diagnostic/ die marker crack

Nice find.... It is always OK to find/collect outside of your normal collecting interests. Might even become a new interest. Cheers, RickO
While these DDR are unique they are also somewhat common. Spending 10 minutes looking through photos on ebay on just about and given day you can probably find 1-4 of them. There is another FS802 DDR for for this year, it is also kind of easy to find, a few years back I located two top pop fs802.

It also looks like doubling on the belly as well, almost more obvious than the fringe hair. Or am I just imagining things? Nice pick up!

Thanks for posting.
I am not a Buffalo collector per say but do like them.
Once I find my misplaced stack of Buffs, I will go through them looking for this DDR.

Kennedys are my quest...
You are correct, there is a light double layer along the belly. Great Eye!

I'm not too discerning when quick-looking at Buffs.
I'd a missed those (and have) for sure.
