It’s taking a long time to take Ukraine because Putin wants it that way

    There is an ulterior motive

    Now we have nuclear threats.

I think nuking the USA is on Putin’s to do list. After that the can walk into Europe.

Strongly disagree. This is not going to plan. Putin is being embarrassed on the world stage. But it makes him even more dangerous as he is likely to double down.

If one has nuclear weapons there is always a threat. Saber rattling and a physiological ploy before tomorrows "meeting". It's also a jab at the west. To be expected from a such a despot.

On a side note I'm proud of my ancestral country of Poland for taking in refuges no questions asked.

Definitely not going as Putin had planned. He underestimated the Ukrainian resolve big time.

    From an AP article today:

"KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — In a dramatic escalation of East-West tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear forces put on high alert Sunday in response to what he called “aggressive statements” by leading NATO powers.

The directive to put Russia’s nuclear weapons in an increased state of readiness for launch raised fears that the crisis could boil over into nuclear warfare, whether by design or mistake.

Putin’s step is “potentially putting in play forces that, if there’s a miscalculation, could make things much, much more dangerous,” said a senior U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity."

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

Russia needs to take Putin out, some kind of operation Valkyrie type thing, for the good of the world and their own country.

A lot of Russian citizens are protesting against Putin.

Russians hold anti-war rallies amid ominous threats by Putin

MOSCOW (AP) — From Moscow to Siberia, Russian anti-war activists took to the streets again Sunday to protest Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, despite the arrests of hundreds of protesters each day by police.

Demonstrators held pickets and marched in city centers, chanting “No to war!” as President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear deterrent to be put on high alert, upping the ante in the Kremlin’s standoff with the West and stoking fears of a nuclear war.

“I have two sons and I don’t want to give them to that bloody monster. War is a tragedy for all of us,” 48-year-old Dmitry Maltsev, who joined the rally in St. Petersburg, told The Associated Press.

Protests against the invasion started Thursday in Russia and have continued daily ever since, even as Russian police have moved swiftly to crack down on the rallies and detain protesters. The Kremlin has sought to downplay the protests, insisting that a much broader share of Russians support the assault on Ukraine.

    Disagree

Russia has the military firepower to end this quickly if they wanted. I think the slowness is to draw the west into a larger war.

History has thought us that superior firepower often doesn't win wars. Logistically they are having issues.

Edited to add if Putin wants to start WWIII there is nothing to stop a madman from turning the key. No amount of sanctions or diplomacy will deter him if he is hell bent on escalation. It's messed up. He's obviously unhinged. I doubt anybody in his cabinet will stand up to him anytime soon.

This begins with the west (US and Europe) stopping the gas flow in from Russia. This is a large $$$ maker for Putin. Re-open the xl pipeline for starters. Become self reliant for petroleum once again as we were until 1-20-21. This will choke the Putin economy and get Putin's attention and hopefully put an end to this horrible situation in Ukraine.

Hey guys. Checking in after the weekend. I'm fine with you guys discussing this issue here as we all certainly have feelings for it. I will remind everyone to keep the blatant politics out of the discussion, which will be a bit challenging because of the the nature of the issue. There have been some posts that have gone a bit over the line already.

The Kremlin has sent more than 400 Russian-paid mercenaries into Kyiv with the mission to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to a report.

The Wagner Group, a Russian private military company accused of covertly working with the Russian government, flew in mercenaries from Africa to Kyiv about five weeks ago, The Times of London reported.

Their assignment was to decapitate Zelenskyy’s government and prepare the ground for Moscow to take control in exchange for handsome financial bonuses, according to the newspaper.
