It looks to me like the mintmark is just too low to match die 4. I'd wait for more opinions but I'd say its no good because of how low the mintmark is.
Edit: spelling
Coin Photographer.
No bottom serif on the D and wrong position.
Weak details on the leaves & branches.
Designer's initials.
Reverse rim.
Is it just me or do the rims seem a bit off too? I didnt think they were quite that thick...

since all i could see was the obv when opening the thread, i made my decision from that. no bueno.
The reeding looks odd as well, too sharp. Wouldn't a coin in that wear state have worn down reeding as well?
The E in America.
A visually, questionable, raw coin, I too will pass.

Without even getting into the specifics on the mm diagnostics, the coin just looks OFF in the surfaces and toning.

Bids up to $3709 !
Stop the madness!
.
i'm not commenting on that part though it is a good question but i will say that when i first saw the obv and the easily visible reeds, i thought of the year 1923 for the mercs as some were minted (probably other years too) with the reeds being quite pronounced and visible when looking straight down at the middle of the coin even. i don't recall that being the case with 1916-d. that kinda stuff tends to stick with ya.
Okay there is some fishy stuff here and the seller knows this is a counterfeit.
The bid was up to $3709 with 29 bids now it's back down to $2125 with 27 bids.
They canceled their shill bids to make the current highest bid valid.
For some reason the bid history is not showing a canceled or retracted bids.
Edited to add:
Before everyone asks how I know this.... I am the high bidder now.
Very counterfeit
The inside of the "D" is supposed to have an angled look on the right inside loop.
Think 1914-D Lincoln.

You're OK, the listing is now gone...
I immediately thought it was fake... the reverse rim is terrible...the mm does not 'match' any of the dies (though close on one). Glad it is gone now... Cheers, RickO
That's the first thing I noticed too.
Glad that has been taken down.
