Your “Details” holder coin

Looking at the “ Most expensive coin in a “Details” holder?” thread got me wondering. Do you have a coin in a details holder? Key date, rare variety? I have a favorite in my collection. Let’s see your scratched, environmental damaged, corroded, holed, bent…etc coins in a holder.

Found this coin in my parents stash and thought I would send it in. Even in the details holder price guide is at 525. The 1867 S had a mintage of 48,000 Genuine - AG Details (98 - Damage)
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

Well I just submitted a set of coins I’m excited about so for sure in that situation one or more of those will come back unexpectedly “details cleaned” so I should have a few to share here in a few months...!
I don’t have any (in slabs), but I remember the first coin show my uncle took me to when I was walking around thinking “details” and “whizzed” were positive things. Kind of like a + grade that didn’t exist back then.

Got rid of mine. Seems a good idea at first. Then eventually the coin disappears. Then the label, gone, except for that glaring word DETAIL
Cool thread!

I do not have one in a slab, but these two were returned to me in bodybags many years ago. Not overly surprised by the results but gave it a shot.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I won't accept Details coins for my Walker collection, but I'm far more forgiving with large cents.
Still, I try to be choosy, and find coins that on a good day may have straight graded, or at least still have
decent appeal.
Mr_Spud
I think I’ve cracked them and put them back into the Dansco.

What to do with them now? They’re ok from a distance, but they bug me!
I ‘could’ photograph them seductively and sell them raw on the Bay, but NO! I still have a shred of honesty.
In fact, I have one raw coin up there now- listed as Unc details, with an old cleaning. Hopefully my honesty will reap some rewards…. Wait, it already has!

I got one!
I submitted 8 details coins for a collector club submission one year (it was a slow year). This was one of them.
It's all about what the people want...
I suspect you knew what you were getting in that case Luke. ;-)
Those “UNC details” are a stretch! Unless of course, they’re referring to Uncle H.W. Thebo ;-)

Okay, here’s mine. I could never afford (without the wife killing me) a Full Horn 16 doubled die if it wasn’t in a details holder.

Only have a few and they are all very early. I bought this because 1. it is attractive, nothwithstanding the granularity, 2. I've seen worse granularity in a non-details holder, 3. it does not have Ed on the high points, so it doesn't look "dug' IMO, and 4. I'm more forgiving on these early coins, especially colonials and 18th century federal.
Nothing special, but it is a rather low mintage coin.
It's whizzed.
Can you show the reverse? Thanks.
A few years ago I was able to cherrypick a 1913 type one buffalo nickel, 3 and one half legged variety, in uncirculated conditon. I sent it to pcgs and here is the front of the holder I got back along with the photo picture

it is a real nice coin but if you look at the details label you will see that it has had a spot removed according to
the verbiage on the details holder if you look further into the details holder the 98 stands for damage so I guess
the process of removing the so-called spot constitutes damage according to pcgs anyway it is a nice ms60 specimen in my opinion and extremely rare as such
a.k.a "The BUFFINATOR"
I do not have any 'details' coins in slabs.... but I do have several that would certainly merit the comment. Cheers, RickO
Currently, no "Details" coins in the holder either.... but I did crack this one for my Type Set...

@HoledandCreative asked: Can you show the reverse? Thanks.
Sure!
(as before, photo thanks to Heritage)
I don't have any coins in "details" although I do have a couple of political tokens.
This scarce Jackson piece is scratched.
This Grant piece is not listed in DeWitt / Sullivan. I bought it in a Heritage Auction and got hit with the minimum buyers' fee because the winning bid was so low. I have never seen another one. The dies were crude, and there could not have been very many struck. Someone tried to hole it for suspension, probably with a hammer and a nail.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Heritage no longer has them.
I have a couple details coins that are not in slabs but I really like them

Here's one coin that I really thought it would straight grade and it didn't!
Very upset when it occurred.
From a possible $1000 coin to a Detailed $50 coin.
Well, I did end up trading it with my buddy for two decent NGC slabbed coins.
Here's the trouble maker. Lol
1920s Mercury Dime w/details
Also, has FB

Although, I shouldn't of gotten so upset. I cherry picked it from my LCS in its silver junk tray. It only cost me $5
Thanks

I have 2 details. The first is real details I mean the coin is a counterfeit.
The 2nd was Anacs was having a special and on the last day I was short a coin and decided to slab a flying eagle that I was going to give away, but I like Flying Eagle coins.. so I still have it.

These came back “damaged - mount removed.” I handled both raw and maybe on the Teutonic knight coin could I see a rim Knick.
So, now I look at “details” coins.
