Could this be the 1918/7 D Buffalo? Acid date

VetterVetter Posts: 789 ✭✭✭✭✭

This was in a collection I picked up. I’m on the fence if it is or isn’t. I could use some input on it. Thanks!

I say yes. The mintmark on a genuine coin is closer to the 'E' in 'FIVE' and tilts slightly to the left.

Thank you for this info. On the acid date I was considering sending in (another thread) the Mint Mark is clearly centered with what looks like vertical bars left and right. Holding it side by side with a genuine example I have it's an easy diagnostic I was not aware of.

Yes, the holes in the "8" are diagonal on the 18/7 and vertical on the regular 18-D.

Are you going to get it slabbed? In this case the slab would add value to the coin and would be worth the cost.

I submitted this one. Of course I'd submit even if a problem, if just for authenticity.

    Great score.

Nice score but too bad about the acid.

In the 60's as a young teenager looking thru bank rolls of nickels for buffs found plenty of slicks.
Used " Nik A Date" phosphoric acid to bring out the dates sold the rare ones
To local coin shops. Got real good at applying the acid so as make it more difficult to tell
    Lesser discoloring..
