The pictures make it a bit tough. A “red” coin can be RB if the color is a bit muted, and to me, the coin looks like that may be the case. Add in the spotting and perhaps darker fields in front of the bust and I think it may well be RB.
It would either be R&B or a poor red because of the spots. I would vote red, but it might lower the numeric grade.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think I read that PCGS grades a coin red if it maintains 95% of it's original Mint color??. So according to that i agree with RB

@Ktp... It looks about the same in those pictures.... Lighting in pictures can be tricky.... The pictures are good, just not sure how the graders will see it 'in hand'. Cheers, RickO
Close call but it will probably get the RD designation. Please let us know what it grades.

questionable color. sometimes copper coins are dipped or otherwise altered to make them appear more red but this usually results in either a little or a lot of pink color which is what the coins look like when they were minted but when altered to look like this it doesn't come out looking natural. sometimes this is done to deceive, sometimes not. i'm not saying 100% here but it has that look to me FROM the pics provided. more then obv than the rev. but it could be ok too.

@LanceNewmanOCC thanks for the explanation.
it was in a small plastic sleeve used in cigarette machines. They stapled change to a pack of cigs. It was part of my grandfathers collection who was in the vending machine business way back when. I will send it in to Pcgs just for fun. I will keep you posted.

it is advisable to send a few coins at a time to reduce cost per-coin. but have fun and let us know how it turns out.

Close but I think it will get an rb due to the dark spots. That said in general I think it looks more like a red coin.

From the photos I think RB, the obverse is the hold up imo.

If the color in the photos is correct I would say that it was dipped long ago and not properly washed.
RB is judged straight on

when posting pics take the coin out of the plastic flip
It seems somewhat borderline but I think RB due to the spots.

Looks to me like RB, but close, and judging from pictures (i.e. lighting, angle) makes it really tough. Cheers, RickO
Here are photos next to a red wheat cent. Not sure if it

is comparable to wheat cent as far as color.

if submitted, i think there is at least a chance at QC. looks a bit pink to me from the pics. in-hand may be different.
I like it as RED better than RED/BROWN.

What does QC mean? Cleaned?
