Nothing Special - Something Special aka One of a Kind

smuglrsmuglr Posts: 421 ✭✭✭✭

I know - not great photos but that's not what it's about.

My mother passed away just over 5 years ago. A few years before she died gave me these. Nothing special almost 45 million of the first one nearly 300,000 of the second and they show the years.

The Morgan dollar is one that was part of my grandmother's pay at Ballard and Ballard/Pillsbury in Louisville c1960. The Liberty gold was in my grandfather's safe and came to mom when he passed.

I have a couple lower mintage, better condition, more valuable coins, but these are One of a Kind and Priceless. Please share Something Special that is 'Nothing Special'

    Cool,
I have a 1935 Peace Dollar that was my grandfathers, it has a hole as if intended to be used as a keychain but it has worn too close to the edge for my comfort. I'll eventually put a bushing in it and use it as intended.

My first in person coin purchase. 3 seated dimes for $15, at a local flea market. These are 2 of the 3, no idea what happened to the third.

@smuglr ... With familial connections like that, those coins are definitely something special. I have a couple of colorized ASE's my Mom gave me years ago....yep, special indeed. Cheers, RickO

@ChrisH821 Neat - get that project done. Do you remember him using it that way? Have a photo?

@smuglr...I do not have pictures, but they are the standard red, white and blue gown of Liberty. My Mom, not a collector, really thought it would make these very valuable in the future. I never told her different. Cheers, RickO

Sorry about mom. Yes, we tend to hold on to these gems in our lives that bring us to the many memories of loved ones. Very sentimental. And they should. I have these special coins I tend to share on the forum.
Many members here has heard my story.
Many right now might be rolling their eyes as I type this? Lol. But your thread makes me want to share this story once again, to you, my friend.
My father passed 10 yrs. ago. When his children were born, all 5. He did something special for us. He went and bought Morgans and Peace dollars. He self engraved all our names on one side and our birthdays on the other side.
Well, long ago I decided to show tribute to my Dad for all his heartfelt actions toward
us kids! I wanted to send my coin, 1921s Morgan, to our Host, PCGS to see if they'll
place it in their slab with a unique title on the plastic? Well, they did! I wrote them a letter explaining my story and request.
Here's my coin. And two more of my deceased siblings. Only my younger brother and sisters coins need to be sent.
Maybe, if interested? You too, can have your special coins showing tribute as well?
Your coins are awesome! Esp. That Gold one. Thanks ;)

@ricko and she was right, as mothers are, those are treasures today.

@joeycoins A nice tribute to your father's special project. And even better they are engraved in his hand - neat to have that.

Perhaps it was spent on an ice cream cone?

When it comes to coins passed down from Mom or Dad, it always holds that special place in one's heart.
I have posted this coin before, but it is fitting to post here once again.

It was given to my mom, on the day of her birth in1930.

@WAYNEAS Very nice - and someone kept it in great shape for nearly 50 years before that - another collector in family tree?

I also have the little gold / felt box it came in.
