A nice 1915 buffalo nickel cherrypick that I just made today

I have had this good condition 1915 buffalo nickel for a few months now and just looked at it again a while ago and low
and behold it is the rare 1915 doubled die obverse that is listed in the Cherrypickers guide as old FS number FS-014.9 or FS-05-1915-101 (new format). It kinda looks like the 1930 doubled die obverse nickels that are well known and these from 1930
are relatively common and easy to buy or find if you want one. But not so the 1915 DDO! It is downright rare in my opinion.
Have looked for one of these on and off since the beginning of the current century and this is the first one I have found.
This is one to keep your eye open for.

Always nice to find a treasure in the coins you already own.... Nice catch. Cheers, RickO
Great find! I’ve never found one. Somewhat similar to the 1921 I discovered that’s listed in Wexlers doubled dies.

boooooo.
i've never found one and don't expect to. that is one rare son of a gun.
i've found a 16 ddo in the wild, many 3.5 leggers, including 1913 t1 and a 19p major ddo (under the radar), plenty of other ddos but never a 1915 ddo but i've also never found a 35p ddr in the wild oddly enough.
nice to pick yourself on such a toughie! gratz.

Super cool to find that hiding under your own nose all that time.
That makes for a good day indeed.
Thanks for the reminder as to what might be lurking in our stashes.

The doubling was hiding right under his (and your) nose all the time.
Nice story.

Nice find.
Glad you did not sell it and then find out about its rarity.

Congrats
Nice find. Another one that I'm still hunting for.
One sold in a Heritage auction a while ago for over a hundred bucks in good-04.

has that coin been acid etched over entire coin? it looks odd, but could be pixelation and camera.
On August 18 2019 Heritage Galleries sold one of these for $1320 in a pcgs holder in AU
On May 31 2016 Heritage sold a pcgs good-04 for $109.00)
This doubled die has been listed in the Cherrypickers guide for quite a long time.

I forgot to add that a while back, before I found this 1915 DDO, in the same junk box, was a sharp au 1913 type one buff
and a nice 1936-s buff in ms63 both for about 79 cents apiece. Long time ago i got an 1885 liberty nickel in abouit good
for a buck or so and one of the best a good 1918/7-d for 10 bucks that was listed as a 1918-d. It pays to keep looking
and not get discoiuraged when you go dry for a long time. Yoiu never know what is just around the corner

That’s the way to do it keep sharp, good eye keep up the good work guys.
Hoard the keys.
That's a great find... And they are extremely hard to find... My first one and only one I sent to Bill Fivaz about 1993... That was in the Third Edition, for the first time... Enjoy and good luck.
