Full Steps on this Jefferson Nickel?
I got some rolls of birth year dated Jefferson Nickels for my birthday. 1979-D. So I decided to go through some. Is this considered FS? Or is the strike too soft to the extreme left of the steps? Not my series, not planning on submitting. Just curious, thanks.

Not my series either but I would say no because of the left side of the steps

i don't recall the specific step count required (with no nicks) at the tpgs but it sure looks like one to me.
I have seen many Full Step graded Jeff's in the 40's that looked far, far worse than that one. Don't know if the requirements changed for modern or not, but I have noticed the moderns to be a lot easier to find with complete lines for the steps. Maybe because of the hardness, not sure.

Here are a couple more out of the same roll that are pretty darn close, if not there.
I would say yes but I have sent some in and they came back not full steep. Yours look really good one thing is are they nice enough to rec a nice grade and full steeps that is the key.
Hoard the keys.
It looks like the 5th and 6th steps merge. I don't think they recognize 5FS anymore and have to be 6FS. I may be wrong.

Yes, you are wrong. Only 5 complete steps are required, and the top step where the columns rest are a given. I would agree with Type2 and Kurisu that this coin should garner the designation.
Good to know, thanks!

When I magnify the OP picture, the fifth step does not appear to be full... in the middle and to the left. Now, that being said, it may be lighting in that picture, so ICBW. Good luck, send it in and let us know. Cheers, RickO
I have looked at many pictures of PCGS FS Jeffersons. Lighting and angle of view both change perception of steps.
I would give your first coin a 85% chance of getting FS now. We have not seen obverses to guess if you have a 64, 65, 66 ...
There is a 65FS on eBay now that you can get for $25 which is less than cost of submitting yourself, unless you have a large order to cut shipping fees per coin.
This here Jefferson I sent in awhile ago.
I knew I had the "FS" but was trying to hit that ms 67. PCGS Price Value. $325
Came up short.
