Guess The Grade - 1808 $5

My gold type set journey continues. I pulled the trigger on this 1808 $5 from my local dealer this morning. Took pictures when I got home.
What do you all think? I'll give it a few hours before I post the slab details and my thoughts.

Nice, looks like it has nearly full luster in the fields.
It could be one of those "AU58/MS62" split decisions.
I can't quite tell if there is any wear on the cheek from that photo.
I'll go with MS61.
Wild guess.. 55
And I wish it was mine 🤯

Very nice, I'll go 62 on that piece.
I like it, AU-58 ?

I'll go with 58

Great coin. First thought was 58... with a bean.
Great looking coin. I’ll go 58. I need to move. My local dealer is near 80 and won’t sell his gold because he wants to hold on to it.

Wow, I love that. I agree with the other replies with 58-62

The grade is ... Oh Hell Yes!!
Based on that picture, it's somewhere between a 58 and a 63, pretty much just like everyone is saying. 'd say 58, and I'd give it a bean.
Old, dirty, original gold. Love it!!

Alright, looks like the guesses have died down so I'll wrap this up!

Coin is MS61, no CAC. I like it! Clean for a 61 in my opinion. Compares very favorably to others I can find pictures of (coinfacts etc). The biggest issue with the coin is that the luster is a little flat, although the coin has a lot more life than is apparent in the trueview (which I havent posted but you can look up from the cert #).
I think my pics are a little better, but still the coin is more impressive in hand.
I'm very happy with it as a nice type example for my set. Great start to the year for the ____ collection (still need a name!).

Very nice! I was thinking 58 also
i was thinking 58. either way, 58/61 ... nice coin
For all those thinking 58, what made you think "not ms?"

A 61 grade suggests to me that on a good day PCGS says it’s uncirculated and on a bad day it’s a 58. Assuming the coin was at CAC they either didn’t think it was uncirculated or something else is going on with the coin.
Very nice, you have a good eye. I wasn't sure how this should grade but these arent my specialty.

Discoloration on the portrait and some shine on the high points of the wings. You know, probably the same things CAC saw...

Late to the game, but my initial impression is a 58. Liberty's cheek jumps out as the primary area of light wear. A very loverly coin none-the-less.
A nice coin that I would love to have.
Beautiful coin.
While gold isn't my specialty, I'm guessing luster is the only thing holding it back.
I have seen coins with positively more wear graded mint state.
The cheek almost looks like it was toned from long contact with something. The same discoloration is seen in some recessed areas.
I don't see enough wear to keep it from mint state.
That is one gorgeous coin! That’s all I know. Wow…

Personally I would like to see some more luster.
The dirt in the shield and numerals and some devices is a something I prefer not to see in mint state.
But it is a great coin and truly outstanding eye appeal exactly like a 200 year old coin should look IMO. Additionally I do not get so possessive of MS grades, many do not have the eye appeal of a slight cabinet rub coin.
Was going 63 but I was late for the party.
Was 58. 62 dipped
Nice coin. Some significant clash marks on the reverse that give it character.
I think I see rub on the cheek and in the obv fields. But it's hard to believe that this coin ever "circulated" in the true sense of the word.
First impression and light dinge? If I look more closely, I really can't point to any wear.

Beautiful coin! Have made it as far back as Classic Head design, I'd love to add one of these to my collection.

From the images... I thought 58 initially too because of the break in color on Ms. Liberty's cheek.
Awesome die clash on the reverse! Beautiful coin...

Late to the party again.... but was going to guess 58.... Not a big surprise to see 61, but IMHO still a 58. Cheers, RickO
My first impression was MS61. I think it’s exactly what it should be for the grade. Great coin. Enjoy!
