WHO ELSE GETS EXCITED SEEING THIS WHEN YOU OPEN A $25 BOX OF PENNIES

I paid face value( $25 ) for this from my local bank! When I opened this I was absolutely floored and can’t wait to tear into them! Just to be sure I checked 10 throughout the box to verify and I’m freaking happy as a fat kid opening a box of treasure, oh wait I described myself exactly! Lol!

Very cool. Someone saved them from circulation. Most likely after he died, his family took them to the bank and deposited them. Let us know what you find. B)

@Jlynn8523 I'm excited just knowing how much fun it is to roll search that many rolls. Last nite I did one roll of 2005-P Jeff's and came away with multiple die cracks and I was jazzed. Get your liquid tears ready for them eyeballs. Good hunting and can't wait to see what you find. Good luck. Peace Roy

@Jlynn8523... Looks like some fun rolls... However, since they are marked like that, you can expect any real treasures to have been withheld. Still, could be some other treasures that were missed or the previous owner was not aware of.... Good luck, and let us know. Cheers, RickO

  • Okay so the backstory I guess this guy was a collector and passed away like a few others had said and three boxes like this were left behind to his family and supposedly his son said they had never been opened as long as he had been alive! I bought all three boxes but they were all wheat backs but the other 2 range up to 1999! This is going to take a while to sort through but I have already found some pretty cool stuff and of course I started with the wheat back box as far as the 12/77 I was told that that was when he purchased certain rolls from the bank! I don’t know yet we’ll see!

    Yea!
Good Luck, my friend. Sorry, gonna play the devil's advocate. It's funny you made this thread. I just picked up a $25 box myself!

The only thing is, customer wrapped rolls can also be a downer? Meaning, they could of been searched already? In your case, hope they're NOT! The box I received today. I purposely asked for these wrapped ones, not customer wrapped.
    Good Luck. ;)

Got yourself maybe a couple hundred bucks worth of wheats at least. My bank only sells rolls from FRB. The rolls look like joey's rolls seen above.

Bummer, what I thought was going to be a lucky and interesting box of cents has just turned for the worse. It happens.

For the straight clip, I think that it was cut after minting, not an actual planchet clip.

In before the poof. Good luck!

I just don't understand why someone that is not interested in a thread because it may bore them or isn't up to their standards of collecting, has to make a comment that ridicules the OP. This thread will probably now get poofed because a member decided to only contribute sarcasm instead of interest in a new members find and only wants help!!

A funny practical joke would be to mark some rolls of cents with "Indian head cents" and then turn them in at the bank. Or would that be too mean? :D

Or mark one of them "RARE L@@K".

This is why leaving coins as a family “legacy” isn’t always the best idea. For most people, it’s just spending money.

Yes I definitely get excited when seeing a box like this. Except when they’ve been labeled cause that usually means the person who rolled them knew what he was doing.
Now, the newer rolls that have 80’s and 90’s though may contain some high mint state coins worth grading.
I get more exited about an 80’s MS68 than I do an old brown rpm.

    Good luck with it :)

Usually that shows they were pressed into some kind of bezel for jewelry, keyholders, or those Lucky Horseshoe holders..........

I reuse old paper coin wrappers and have brought many to the bank for redemption that indicated that there was 90% silver inside. There wasn't. Not intending to get anyone's hopes up, but it probably has. Just getting rid of my extra change.

BTW- got a 1940 cent this last week in F-VF in change. Doesn't take much to get me excited these days, and after 50+ years, I still pay cash in order to receive change to check. I'll never break that habit.

I definitely got a ton of them! And a lot are in high MS from ‘59-‘99 I’m still kinda organizing everything but I’ll shoot a couple pics of different things but for the time being instead of focusing on errors which I’m horrible at if you couldn’t tell, I’ll just try to stick to better grades of coins until I can get more knowledge! And then kinda leave the thread to where u guys take it from there!
