New to this site and coin collecting

Hello my husband and I are new to collecting ... We have a variety of coins saved up to be checked but have no idea where to go... I would like to see if anyone here can help with some of our coins and maybe let us know where to go to get them certified

Welcome! Best to post pics of the coins. There are many members who will be glad to help and a few that might not make you feel welcome.
Try your best to ignore the rude members. They are outnumbered by the nice ones.
Good luck with your journey!😎
Most people get their coins certified with PCGS, NGC, or ANACS, but not all coins are worth getting certified.
You can post images of coins here after you're approved. After a few days or so, you'll be designated as a "Member" rather than an "Applicant" under the "Roles" heading. If you have too many coins to photograph, another option would be to show them to a local coin dealer and ask for their opinion.
Welcome to the forum!
Welcome guys!

Glad you're both here.
Ask any questions.
Post often.
Have FUN!!!

Welcome to the forum. As others have said, photos are the most effective way for us to help you. You can always upload to an Imgur album and post the link here, rather than wait for the permission level you need to post images in the thread.

Post photos of what you have before even considering sending anything in for certification. Many, many coins are not worth the cost of certification. Do you own a copy of "A Guide Book of United States Coins" better known as the Red Book? This is a basic item that all collectors should own and use. Take your time and read through the many things available on this site.
Welcome to the forum.
While waiting to post photos, it might help for you to provide some general information about the types and date ranges of some of your coins.

I recommend also purchasing the 2022 Guide to US Coins aka the Red Book. It'll help you a great deal to learn but also get a ballpark idea of value.

Welcome. The red book is the best $20 you’ll spend to get started. It’s handy because it’s information is awesome and the pricing is not as important as the information, making it useful for years. There’s other ways to check current prices.
Look forward to seeing pictures and hearing more about your coins 🙀😉. There’s a lot of people here who are very knowledgeable, as with any group of folks, some are more personable than others. 👍🏼

Welcome to the forum. We love new serious collectors. As said, when you are allowed, simply copy and paste your photo or photos in the body of your post.

When will I be able to post some of the coins we have
We have several silver coins we have a steel penny and many that have errors on them from press
What date ranges and types are the silver coins?
Most 1943 steel cents are worth between approximately 10 cents and $1.

Welcome to the addiction. Get a Redbook. Do not clean your coins. Enjoy your time with books and coins.
Welcome.
Enjoy, lot's of help and good folks here.
@MattandKim welcome to CU. You really need to buy The Official Redbook published by Whitman. Treat your eyes to the Large Print edition in the spiral binding. This reference shall answer many basic questions you're asking. Use the Google to find other reference websites and save them. Our host PCGS has lots of info and great images of high quality coins for recognition and comparison. Good luck. Peace Roy

Welcome to fold. There are a lot of coins that don't need to be certified to be enjoyed. Don't clean them or wipe them off ... hold them by the edges and try to keep them safe. Take your time, get a Redbook (at least the 3rd time that has been said), ask questions and share pictures when you're able. There's a wealth of knowledge here, and we usually like to help.

Those 1943 Steel Cents, you're talking about. They ALL should be able to stick to a magnet. If you should find one that doesn't. Well, how should I put this? You would then be in possession of one of the all-time rarities in the coin hobby! The "Copper 1943 Cent".
Congratulations if you find one.

Other far more likely reasons that one dated 1943 might not stick to a magnet - the coin could be a counterfeit or an altered date example.

Yes! Good point, Mark. We have to be aware of the cheaters out there, unfortunately.
Thanks, Mark

Don't clean your coins...no matter how tempted you are to spiff them up.

The steel penny we found is in terrible shape ... Can hardly make out the lincoln face but can see the shiloete its just as bad on the back side... Don't remember if we put it to a magnet or not... And we have silver dimes silver Kennedy 1/2 dollars susan b anthony dollars wevyave buffalo niclkes a few silver quarters and the .999 liberty millennium coins... I have found quite a few that look smashed ...bone quarters is like smeared from the I'm guessing pressure... Its a New York quarter... I just found a 69 S penny... And some other questions lol... I look at every piece of change that gets in our hands now...

Sounds like you're on the right path to drive yourself crazy like the rest of us.

Can someone give opinion on this... I'm thinking someone did this to it but then the last 9 in the date doesn't look right
Post mint damage (PMD)
I see on your profile that you are a full member now
You can upload pics now.
The easiest ways are to drag-and-drop the image off the computer
Or
If you’re in an image editor, select what you want and it is a simple copy-and-paste
I use my cell phone
Also what is up with dime... Never seen their before

Just damaged this did not happen at the mint.

I pretty much figured that... But hey ya never know lol
The second dime is environmental damage.
That second dime has paint on it, just stuff that happens out in the wild, worth ten cents as it always has been.

So the one that is brown is environmental damage??
Yes also called PMD - post mint damage.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
It also has no mint mark on it
OK I found a penny earlier and it has no mint mark nor does the artist mark appear on front or back of penny
And a 1969 S with no artist mark
All dimes from 1967 have no mintmark on them, that is normal. You can find most of this information for yourself in the redbook.

It wasn't a dime... Its a penny... And here is the 1945 penny no mint or artist mark

Many modern US coins don't have mint marks.
Denver is a D mint mark
Philadelphia is no mint mark
For the Lincoln cents struck for circulation those minted in Philadelphia bear no mint mark except for 2017
Welcome to the forums. Good luck collecting & remember to have fun!

Your 1945 cent is from Philadelphia so there is no mint mark.
