I love these new PCGS boxes!

ashelandasheland Posts: 23,404 ✭✭✭✭✭

I had the silver one for a while now, just got the gold one today! I’m going to put the respective metals in the correct boxes now. :p

Is there a copper colored one!? I need it! :D

Let’s see your fancy PCGS boxes. B)

    Oh no!
I just got a gold one.
Now I'll need a silver one too or my box collection will have a hole in it.

I submitted four orders in August and September. I only received one silver color, the other three were gold color which was the next quarterly special.
I didn't do an order in the last quarter, but they sent me the bronze 35th anniversary metal in the first order shipped during the fourth quarter.

I got a gold one recently. I think I have a toothpaste one somewhere, too.

IF PCGS was smart, they would design a box that fits ALL of their post-rattler slabs. If they were really smart, they would design the box to fit NGC and other TPG slabs as well.

If I were a few years younger, I would design and manufacture this box myself. These days, perhaps a 3D printed box would suffice.

All you really need is a 3D-printed extension to the base that would raise the lid by 3/16" higher (5 mm for world coins).

I use NGC boxes for the most part - they seem to be the best option, but not perfect. I use Intercept Shield boxes as well.

I don't think they fit in Regional Rate A boxes.

I buy this off eBay, 4 at a time. They hold PCGS AND NGC. Makes it nicer to mix slabs in.

I have tried to mill from the inside the little rib that NGC puts in the box but my tool isn’t long enough. I suppose I could mill it out from the outside and then cover the area cut out….sounds like way too much work, easier to buy the ones above.

Not to hijack this thread but I may have one more of the gold ones that could use a new home…PM me.

Not sure how you guys are still getting these gold boxes. My order returned a few weeks ago arrived with the usual black box.

The Orange version is my watch list too. I should have got one of those basketball coins and sent it in. Oh well.

My gold box arrived a few days ago. I think they are shipping 5+ coin orders in the special boxes...

Can someone send me the PCGS box pop report please.
I'm thinking of making a major purchase.

The orange box by far the expensive one. $80. All the rest are $30-$8.

I have a feeling that our host still has some the orange boxes waiting for other sealed box submissions of the basketball HOF coins.

Perhaps. We do have new hosts even if the lounge still serves the same cocktails. And there would likely be subtle differences to set them apart, die markers if you will.

I have a submission that was entered in their system in November. Got a letter advertising this box in the middle of December. I called and asked if I qualified for one. The lady said I should “but if I didn’t get one I wouldn’t get one”. 🙈

Lime green boxes are being reserved for signed holder submissions of coinage of Margaritaville. They will also have salt around the edges.

    Which reminds me:

Q: Why do sharks swim in saltwater?
A: Because pepper water makes them sneeze.

@Cameonut I bought some 10 count boxes that unfortunately came from Chia tha hold all the different type holders. They work great and save a lot of space too. Just where can these new PCGS boxes be sourced from and any idea how much the cost is.

Does anyone have the 10 count paperboard boxes?

  • SDSportsFanSDSportsFan Posts: 5,152 ✭✭✭✭✭

Does anyone know of a plastic box like the PCGS/NGC boxes, that will hold the "fatty" slabs?

I have three PCGS fatties and two NGC fatties that are just laying loose.

The NGC Fatty holders fit into the regular NGC boxes, albeit very slightly. You have to guide them straight down and very slowly, but they do fit in there. My only problem is the rattler, they want to fall backwards, they're smaller than the grooves in the PCGS box.

  • Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 6,876 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have seen adapters that are inserted into PCGS boxes so rattlers can be stored in them. They have some on eBay. They look home made, but well done.

I’m not necessarily a slab collector, but finding coins that I like in older slabs is definitely a nice bonus.

Thanks for posting this thread. I'm typically not a slab collector, but I do have a few coins that were purchased slabbed that will likely stay that way for a "Box of 20". Do the current offerings from our host fit OGH's and NGC slabs or just the current holders? Thanks again...

Current holders. So to speak because it’s been a few years now that they’ve been the same size. Time fly’s on Pcgs and ngc let’s call them the newer style do not fit in each other’s boxes 👍🏼
And the old holders no. I’m hearing 3-D printers are working on sleeves and such to help with the problem
