More Rare than the 1919 DDO Dime -- 1945-S/ Horizontal S Mercury Dime

fcloudfcloud Posts: 12,133 ✭✭✭✭

The below is a link to a discussion from over 10 years ago about when I received a grade on a 1945-S/ Horizontal S XF45. The number of these coins graded by our host is 11 coins so far (none with FB). Please when you look through your bags of dimes for 1919 DDO (FS-101), please also look for the 1945 S/Horizontal S (FS-503).

I acquired several (8 or 9) 1919 dimes virtually the day or day after the DDO was reported. Never looked at the mm... Still have them - none were the DDO. Will have to check them out. Cheers, RickO

Ricko, the mint mark shown is the 1945-S/Horz S FS-503. If you find one let everyone know.

I have a mint state FB 1945-S dime I'll be checking. Sounds like FS-503 is quite scarce.

I know there needs to be more out there, but only 11 graded at PCGS so far. I have not checked with other cert company POPS, but probably low as well.

I like that the 1945-S/Horz S FS-503 can be seen without using an electron microscope. I'm wanting to add a 1945-S micro S to my dime collection but I want a FB piece and they are very pricey.

I thought I owned one back in the day, but it mustve been the common 1945 micro s instead.
